For an example of a top 20 class according to 247 this year Texas A M is ranked 18th. They have 5 players signed. Their rankings are (53, 133, 150, 234, 243). That's good enough for a top 20 class. I'm thinking we can land a better class then that for 2018.

Yes, we should most definitely exceed the class quality that Texas A&M signed, but his comment was mostly directed at being top 10. Not out of the question, but not a simple task. If we get 4 of our top 8 targets we're liable to be right there.

I guess we should cease this talk about top 20 class then and not get bent out of shape if it's unranked.

Nah it's a message board if people want to get bent out of shape if it's unranked it's their right. I'm just not one of those people. It's fun to speculate and project.

Team recruiting rankings seem to overemphasize quantity. We are automatically going to be a top 20 class just because it'll be 5 good recruits. I think top 10 is very doable because it would only require landing one of the five stars or high 4 stars that we are pursuing (Romeo, Garland, Dort, K. Johnson, Louis King). Hell we could miss on all of those and still be top 10 with 4 top 125 guys. (Thompson, Phinisee, Anderson, J. Hunter, Johns).  I look at Mizzou this year who has one five star (MIchael Porter) and three 4 stars, only one of which was top 50 (Jeremiah Tilmon) and they're ranked 8th.

They do over emphasize quantity. But it stands to reason that Cody, Austin, Remy and 2 more would prob be better than Cody, Austin and Remy.

Rankings don't matter, but I'll up your 6th ranked 12 and 13 with an unranked 15. But again, they don't matter, so not sure why I posted.

For a host of reasons we need 2018 to be an excellent class.

1.) Prove Archie can assemble talent. Talent likes playing with talent.
2.) Dang good In State class. Options a plenty. Langford, Anderson, Phinisee, Jallow, Easley etc.
3.) It very easily could be a less than impressive year on the court. A great springboard recruiting class makes it easy to look past the results based on the circumstances. Miss on recruiting and start your tenure with 2 underwhelming seasons it could be Archies undoing before it ever even starts.
4.) Large class size with immediate playing time for multiple positions. Should be easy sell.
5)make a point to all the other schools we are competing against in the area. (MSU, Louisville, UK, ND, Purdue, Butler, UM, O$U, Illinois, poaching Duke).
6) gain some national recruiting credit and awareness, because I can't count on the season doing that for us.

This...

As to point #3, I believe Garland would attract many high level 2019 recruits. He seems to be a really solid human being raised by a good family. (His dad having being raised right and true on the candy stripes). He's a top level point that seems to listen to his coaches on how to get better. He's probably not a OAD.

I don't disagree that we can. I prefer Texas class to most. High end 5 star. Two top 50 and then two more top 100. That is where I hope we go by next year. But this year for us, there is still a season to be played. Rankings will change. Players we go hard after now will either improve or fall back. We get some. May go hard after other players in the spring. Don't know. Just hard to say we will get a top 20 class in 7 months after a coach is hired with certainty. Surely that is a goal but not a damning thing if it doesn't happen. Archie doesn't seem like a quantity over quality recruiter. If he ends up with 5 in the fall we will definitely have a top 20 class.

I think I've said it before; it would not surprise me the slightest bit if Aaron Henry were the first signed recruit for IUBB 2018.

No nothing about him but I see he is ranked 315th nationally.
