mdn82 Posted March 26, 2017 Posted March 26, 2017 Sampson and Davis both won 21 games with their first teams. I think Miller is definitely capable of that.He should. BubbleKnuts Posted March 26, 2017 Posted March 26, 2017 At this point, I'm thinking it won't take 4 seasons to figure out what kind of coach we have. Quote

Trish Posted March 26, 2017 Posted March 26, 2017 I believe he has a reasonable shot at the elite eight by his third season, pending recruits and such. No extension must be given until we see an elite 8 appearance. Kepner 1 Quote
Popular Post Hovadipo Posted March 26, 2017 Popular Post Posted March 26, 2017 I'm really excited for the near future. Excited to see what next year's roster/staff looks like, excited to start seeing the recruiting plan that will get set in motion in April then July, and excited for November. I'm not going to sit here and play the condescending "don't come back here when Archie has us hanging banners" game, because no one wins in that situation. I just have a gut feeling that we'll look back on today in 5-10 years and be relieved that this is the direction we went. It's not much more than a gut feeling because I don't claim to be a basketball savant, but after a full day of letting this sink in more, I still couldn't be happier. Get some guys to stick around, round out the rest of the roster over the next couple months, and let's get this thing rolling. mdn82, thebigweave, BTOWN and 10 others 13 Quote

recker222000 Posted March 26, 2017 Posted March 26, 2017 Every big name coach was a nobody at one time. Just maybe we just hired the next big name. To be the man you have to beat the man. I highly doubt if he doesn't go to an elite 8 by year two we fire him. Conversely, I doubt that we extend him after year two if we make an elite 8. On a 7 year deal any coach is essentially getting 4 years to show his worth. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app Yep. All it will take is the eyeball test. If people think "winning" or not is all there is to it, they're out of their minds. Watch what happens on the floor. This 140 character "right now" world of immediate satisfaction and all or nothing makes me crazy. Hell, I knew in year 2 what kind of coach Crean was, and his team was terrible. That had nothing to do with him; but you could see his offense was based off the dribble; people stood around, and he wasn't bothered by turnovers. People need to use their eyes, too. This team has good talent and it'll be utilized to its full potential under a real coach. The future couldn't be any brighter. Archie is gonna lead IU back to greatness Quote

We all thought Crean was an amazing recruiter and he was pretty good for a little while. One thing that really helped him in recruiting I believe was his ability to pitch a vision. Crean was a salesman like no other, I don't get that vibe from Miller, Miller seems a little awkward to me. Quote

CR3AMnCR1MS0N Posted March 26, 2017 Posted March 26, 2017 We need to be there before then. Or expecting it next year or the year after that. Maybe his third year. I imagine our roster will be gutted here in a month (James, OG, Bryant). Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile appWe do replace them with new players tho. If it takes us 6 years to make an Elite 8, the entire Board of Trustees needs to be replaced. This is IndianaI'd say I expect Elite 8 year 3 (led by De'Ron Davis [emoji4]) at the latest. This coming season, I'm willing to give some grace. I'd be happy in Archie's first year (assuming players leave like I'm expecting) if we could finish top 3 or 4 in the conference and get to the Sweet 16 and play a competitive game there. I would love more than that, but if our roster is "gutted," expecting more right away is probably unfair. If he doesn't have a strong enough core or can't lead talent well enough to win 3 tournament games by somewhere between years 3 and 5, he's failed at the job he's been hired for. I could see the 6th year being like this year for Crean if Archie hasn't made the E8 by then.Note: had we hired Donovan or Bennett, my expectations for this coming season would be the same. Quote

Trish Posted March 26, 2017 Posted March 26, 2017 One would assume OG and James leave. Leaves Miller with.. Josh Rojo Smith Morgan Bryant If that can't get into the dance next year, then we can go ahead and fire him. It's a damn shame we couldn't even make it this year. Embarrassing! Quote

We will know what we have quick. We have to see a more defense minded squad. I do like the fact he doesn't utilize the weave as much as screens with a purpose. He lets his guys shoot, but they are coming off a screen. Not dribble chuck. He has pressure coming into this gig. But he should. If he wins he will be fine.Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app Old Friend 1 Quote
