Maynard Posted March 25, 2017 Posted March 25, 2017 So what you're showing us is that Archie Miller, with far less talent at Dayton than Crean has had at IU, has a similar record to TC? I look at that and see how much TC under performed. Archie Miller will do just fine. You can interpret the numbers however you like. I didn't post words like "potential" and "tactician" I posted his numbers. If you want to factor in talent, I would also consider that Crean's SOS was two times as good as Millers.Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using BtownBanners mobile app Josh and RedsIUfan 2 Quote

Miller could be great, but I see the hire as a gamble. Pedigree is no better than Crean's was 9 years ago. Granted IU is in a completely different place, though. But if IU is such an elite job, I don't think you have to hire a coach at almost 6 times his current salary. ccgeneral and RedsIUfan 2 Quote
Josh Posted March 25, 2017 Posted March 25, 2017 Correct me if I'm wrong but he led Dayton to the elite 8 in 2014 and took them back to the sweet 16 a year later with a depleted roster and no over 6'6" due to giving some people the boot. 4 straight tourney appearances I mean he's done this all at a mid major program. He also took down Syracuse in 2014 which Crean couldn't even sniff. You still may not be convinced and that's not my point but I don't know what else people want. No one from a mid major is consistently going to make deep runs in the tournament not named gonzaga.Sent from my iPhone using BtownBannersThanks...that helps a little I guess. HoosierTrav 1 Quote

He had weaker opponents with worse players. I understand that. I believe what is disconcerting to some is that yes, he had fewer resources at a somewhat lower competition but although he did well he didn't really dominate with his "superior Xs and Os" everyone is referencing. Popular Post HoosierTrav Posted March 25, 2017 Popular Post Posted March 25, 2017 That's what's supposed to make us feel better? They're the same coach but Crean had more luxuries?? Got anything else for me? Where do you get off saying Archie and Crean are the same coach? You're overreacting rn. Remind of the last time Crean took a team to the NCAA tournament 4 years in a row? Dayton had been to 1......1 in the previous 9 seasons before him. Now extrapolate the fact that he's been consistent at Dayton with what resources he will have available to him at Indiana University. Seriously, gather yourself and start thinking with logic, rather than emotion. Ask yourself.....if you never would have had the thought of hiring Billy Donovan planter in your head, would you view this hire the same way? Miller advanced DAYTON further in the NCAA tournament than Crean was able to in 9 years at Indiana. DAYTON!!!! thebigweave, Hoosier Guy, ALASKA HOOSIER and 5 others 8 Quote

Bowhunter Posted March 25, 2017 Posted March 25, 2017 I'm hoping this hire goes better than crean. Though it seemed like when we got him most were disappointed we thought we'd get better. The national media bragged on crean saying what a good get he was until the day he was let go. I hope everyone has patience at least more than what I have. I think it could be a slow process. Dalton26 Posted March 25, 2017 Posted March 25, 2017 Hey guys don't start name calling or anything like that. Josh is asking legitimate questions. I'd much rather someone do what he's doing than stomp their feet saying I'm done or we screwed up. He's wanting to see what some of the rest of us see in Archie. Remember we are all rooting for the same team at the end of the day. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners rebelhoosier848891, Josh, ALASKA HOOSIER and 4 others 7 Quote

Add in the fact that you play an ACC team and the non conference schedule would be in business. The Crossroads Classic and the Louisville series as well. There are definitely some good opportunities to vastly improve our non-conference schedule. Hoosier Guy 1 Quote
