Welcome Coach Miller

Recommended Posts

Don't think Sean Miller is a total pipedream..AZ to IU is at very worst a lateral career move, but in a lot of ways it is a step up. He could make more money at IU and his recruiting wouldn't dip at all, and in fact could even improve. He would have the same success if not more and be on national TV more often as the Pac12 has a terrible TV contracts compared to the B1G. Arizona is not UK or UNC or KU or Duke. It isn't on that level. I'm not saying he will or that he ought to, just saying that just because he has been there several years, is making 4.8m and recruits well doesn't mean he wouldn't be interested in 6.5m and more exposure with equal or better facilities, budgets, and easier access to midwest recruits.

Just listened to pretty much every IU podcast possible from the last 2 days and here is my conclusion. If our search last until mid next week our guy is Billy D. There seems to be a thing about us not wanting to wait if it really could happen. Sorry but Billy D could gladly do 2 jobs for a few weeks. It would honestly help him when it came to his OKC team a lot and us knowing who the guy is. If Billy D is thinking of leaving then his heart isnt truly in it. Him accepting the job and finishing up he knows he has no pressure and that is a great situation in the NBA. Most these guys feel like they have to do this or that to keep their job sides the Spoelstras and Popovichs and Stevens who are easily the top 3 guys in the NBA. Scott Brooks is pretty safe too as well as Lue. Besides that the NBA is a revolving door. I saw a stat today that most 1st time coaches in the last 20 years have lasted 3.2 years lol. That is a lot of coaches in that span. Him coming here in the offseason means he can afford not to be here everyday either. He could call a few kids and plan on visits to come watch them in a few weeks. Come Monday he could be 3 weeks from his season ending. If we wait that long as is there is no reason we cant wait at least another week or two if he is our guy.

I don't understand why people don't have Gregg Marshall rated higher. If you want to win big and win big right away - Marshall would be a great hire. His Wichita State teams have been ranked in the top 20 by KenPom six years in a row and are preseason top 5 for next year. He has managed to do this at Wichita State - one would think he would absolutely tear it up and IU.
The only thing I can come up with is that people don't like his personality. I can understand that position, but I really don't care how nice of a guy our coach is if we are hanging banners. Also, the administration may not see it this way, but I see his smoking hot, jersey wearing wife as a "double check plus (in the words of Fred Glass)".

I would guess people don't have him rated higher because they would be concerned with how he would do in a bigger conference. That would be my concern. You bring up being in the top 20 in Ken Pom but numbers can be misleading. I will use this year's team that finished with a rpi of 31. Wichita st is 23-0 this year against the rpi +150 teams(14 of those rpi +200 teams). Some on here complained about IU's cupcake schedule. They were 4-5 against rpi top 100 teams ( 2 wins against Illinois st and 1 against @ Colorado st- non tournament teams) 1-4 against tournament teams (Dayton only win). So of their 30 wins this year 26 of them were against rpi +131 teams. Now I'm not saying he couldn't come here and win at a high level I'm just giving u my reason for not having him higher

I don't know if I'd say middle next week.  Wasn't Crean hired April 1st or around there?

I was thinking if we were in mid-April with no announcement we're looking NBA, but I didn't figure it'd go that long because I think those targets are unlikely to say the least.

It means very little but I'm still saying Billy D. I don't think there needs to be any contact made with candidates after that. For shits and gigs..
1) Stevens
2) Bennet
3) S. Miller
4) White

That would be my top 5. Coaches mentioned I'd be upset with.
1) Alford (would test my fandom)
2) Marshall (guy can coach just have weird vibe from him)

Wiscy and Michigan had pretty fair round of 32 games as well

You're questioning whether he can get top level B1G players while comparing his results to some of the top teams in the conferece.... I don't get it.
