Think he wants to transfer into a backup role?

We should aim higher. Look at the PGs the big dogs are signing.

Heck, like you, I like Phinisee better.

However guard depth is key, and I’d take Walker over Durham.

Honestly, I’m waiting to see if there is a pattern behind the kind of player Archie recruits now that he’s at Indiana. If he’s a system coach, maybe we just don’t see how this is the right player for his system. I’m definitely of the mindset that we need a healthy mix of four year players and 5 star studs.

If he wants to play closer to home then maybe he would.
He would be playing in 2019 and the only pg a big dog has so far is North Carolina who has Francis (50). Besides Carton in 2019 there isn’t much depth in the pg position that we are involved with (Cole?)
Maybe we should aim higher but in 2019 who should we shoot for besides Carton?
Totally agree on guard depth. Calling on an Indiana kid that has elite 8 starting experience can’t hurt to see if there is interest in my opinion

Let me be clear, we don't want the starting PG on an Elite team? We're too good for that? Eeesh. We went 16-15 this year lol we aren't very good. CJ would play at least 20mins a game for us.. starting or not. He very well could just want to move home for the reason of his transfer.

CJ Walker has received his release and will transfer from Florida State, a source tells @247Sports. Averaged 8 PPG & 2.4 APG this season.

Wow he did really well during the tourney

His team did decent, I think.

I thought he stood out the most on that team out of the guards. Created his own shot and seemed willing to drive to the hoop

He was losing playing time to another Sophomore guard, Forrest and also Savoy drastically. He’s a solid player for sure. Not a standout. Might want to research.

Hamilton’s rotations had a lot to do with it. He went about 10 deep. Rajohns spoke with CJ walkers dad tonight and he said IU hasn’t reached out yet and said the large rotation didn’t fit CJ

Yeah, makes sense but he was losing time to
Forrest and Savoy as the season progressed beyond the rotation size.

Still was trusted enough by Hamilton to play him during winning time late in games. CJ hit 2 clutch FTs at the end of the Xavier game. His min were going down. Only played 9 min in Missouri game. I still think IU could do a lot worse. In my opinion he is going somewhere where he can play a ton of min and personally I don’t think it will be at IU

He was a good player on an Elite 8 team. I remember him being the 7th man on a 3 seed as a FR.

That’s my point. His minutes have been declining heavily at FSU. He’s a solid player. I don’t think it’s what IU needs unless he’s willing to be a similar player for us and be willing to be a 10-15 minute guy.

People are making him out to be the reason FSU had a good tournament. It’s not the case. Some people like to argue for S&G’s.

He played 13 minutes a game and averaged around 5 ppg. That season. He was not reason that team was good. They had tremendous size and athleticism in the starting 5.

He’s a fine player. But let’s not misappropriate the credit for the teams successes.

Agree. He's a tough kid and he really competes. Would be fine with having him as a rotational piece. But, if he's good enough to beat out a Sophomore Phinisee for significant minutes, than Phinisee will have been a disappointment.

I never said he was the reason. I actually said he was the 7th man on a team that was top 12 in the country as a FR. He would avg 20 mins for us. I like him much more than Durham and I like him more than Green. It takes guys like him to win.

That's simply not true about RP.

Not saying that to be critical of Phinisee. My expectation of him, based on admittedly limited viewings,  is that he's just a notably more talented player than Walker. Little more size, better athlete, better shooter, more instinctive PG skills. I think he's going to be really good. And after a year in the program I would be surprised, and, yeah,  disappointed, if he's not better than Walker will ever be. I think his ceiling is much higher.
