Literally watching Nova vs Bama now... there's been 3 total post ups in this game lol

If this were the 80s I would agree with you. It's like the fullback position in football.

The thing that Coach Crean got right was the importance of the three point shot in today's game. He missed on defense and half court offense, but the game is not post oriented any more.

Well except that Noah Vonlee year. And I guess he recruited this years team. But, yeah usually his teams could hit the 3

We need a big that can defend with length, rebound, and be able to hit a little 15' jumper. Davis is a true 5 with slow feet that can't defend the perimeter. Forrester is probably the closest we have but it'll take a few years for him to be ready.

If we're relying on Morgan and Smith as our bigs we're in trouble.

Thompson? Davis can give us 20mins a game. If Moore transfers, then yeah I hope we grab a big man grad transfer.

Ryan Welage is transferring from San Jose State. Junior averaged 18 ppg, shot 42% from 3. 6’9” 205 forward. From Greensburg, IN. Should be eligible immediately

Honestly if we miss out on Romeo and can snag him and Taylor wouldn't be the worst thing.

I know I’m scouting the stat line here, but I’m profiling him as a marginally athletic  spot up shooter who can’t defend a lick. Makes 3’s and free throws. Maybe that’s worth it alone. But how can a 6’9” kid playing 35 min/gm in a midmajor conference finish a 30 game season with 18 steals and 6 blocks?  Oh, and 4-26, 1-17 in conference.

Count me on the fence.

Gonzaga generally has a big guy or 2 or
3 that can defend, rebound, and sometimes shoot it.

That wasn't really the discussion though. Gonzaga didn't have some "true center" to defend Wesson because they didn't need to because he can't beat you.

I think you're misunderstanding what I want in a grad transfer "big." I don't want a slow, huge 5 that plays with his back to the basket, similar to Davis.

I want a 5 that can defend the bigs like Harms, Happ, Watkins, Wesson, Ward, Bruno, etc. That 5 should also be mobile enough to guard PNR, PNP, or switching to a smaller player. On offense he should be able to step out and knockdown open shots to give Morgan and Smith to operate down low on smaller defenders.

Morgan can't and shouldn't be defending those bigs. If he has to he'll wear down over the course of the season again. Thompson can provide some help but he's more of a 4, same with Smith. Moore and Forrester have the potential to be that type of player; however, they're not big or experienced enough yet. Therefor, I'd like to see a grad transfer 5 that can do those things.

But again.. a guard is much more of a need. Moore is 6'10 and Forrester is 6'9 both are plenty tall. If Moore transfers I hope we get a grad transfer.. if not, our player development needs to be good enough that Moore can give us 6-8mins enough and Thompson 12mins. That's all we really need to have against the "big" teams.

also... exactly how many big guys do you think are on the market that fit your criteria?

Name slips my mind, but the kid that transferred from pUKe to Gonzaga a few yrs ago faired pretty well. He couldn't sniff the floor in Lexington.

He had 26 rebounds against us in 2 games... he sure helped beat us

Well we played him twice without Davis, once on one day rest, and one game we took them to double OT. We competed with them.. obviously our team was incomplete this year.

Any of you that wants a grad transfer big... did any of you witness any of our guard play all year long!?!?

Romeo fixes a lot of those issues; shooting, getting to the rim, and making big shots. I believe we see a more consistent Green (crazy I know). Phinisee will get plenty of run if he can lead and not turn it over. Durham can be a help on the defensive end of the court. Hunter and Anderson will provide a few minutes along with McBob.

What did Moore show this season that will help us next season? Forester will be an undersized frosh.

I want a big versatile team. We're missing the player I described. Davis will help in spots but isn't the answer. Thompson can definitely help but not at the 5 against good teams.
