hoosierpap Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 72-94? 20 years of that. Are you saying 72-94 meets your criteria or you're changing your criteria to 72-94? Quote
WayneFleekHoosier Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 Saying it virtually fits my criteria. Almost to a T coonhounds 1 Quote
WayneFleekHoosier Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 I picked my criteria out of thin air but when you said we've never done that I had to see if you were right. 72-94 is coincidentally almost exactly what I described. biteoftheapple 1 Quote
hoosierpap Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 I'm looking at it on a yearly basis, and if you continue to look at the history and included 94 on it doesn't fit. Quote
WayneFleekHoosier Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 94 was 3rd in conference. Sweet sixteen. Then the first round exit streak starts in 95. Quote
WayneFleekHoosier Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 Even 95 was 3rd in conference and 96 2nd. Both first round exits though. 22-24 years. Missed NCAA three times. Not sure how that stretch doesn't match. MikeRoberts 1 Quote
JSHoosier Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 I don't know about lowered expectations but I'm personally "halfway" happy with the last 5 years of ball. It's been so much more exciting to watch than what we have seen since the 90s. I want a title but I'm personally not going to crap the bed. This all goes back to the notion that has been said 1000 times in this thread. Elite or let's ride this pony out. Don't swap him for the same breed horse. I'd rather have Crean honestly than another similar coach and results. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk I get the thought, but we cannot wait around for one of those coaches to need a job because the elite, home run coaches won't 'need' one. We have to identify who we want, then go out and do what it takes to get them; they want to win big, we have the resources they need. Quote
WayneFleekHoosier Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 Even 95-2003 was decent. Lacked elite status but consistently solid. Misses my criteria but never missed NCAA. Quote

Even 95 on we were top half of the conference (admittedly, sometimes just inside) and in the NCAAs every year. Then the bad coaching hires began. MikeRoberts and WayneFleekHoosier 2 Quote

hoosierpap Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 94 on does not come close to the criteria you initially mentioned. I missed that you said avg 2 wins in the tourney which made me argue that IU hadn't done that before in the tourney (and in the earlier stretch mentioned), so that was my mistake. Missing that, I thought you said year to year. Quote
hoosierpap Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 So question, and maybe playing devils advocate here, but does expecting Crean to achieve Bobby Knight like results not down play Knight? We just picked Knight's best 20 years and said that IU's coach should be doing so... Quote

Missing that, I thought you said year to year.72 through 94. Not 94 specifically. Although 94 was 21-9, third in conference and sweet sixteen. Not too bad at all. And yes. Average 2 wins. We were really, really good for about 25 years. ALASKA HOOSIER, hoosierpap, 8bucks and 1 other 4 Quote

We just picked Knight's best 20 years and said that IU's coach should be doing so...maybe not fully fair. Other teams are doing this now. Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, MSU. We seem to have the ability and funds to give it a go. Why not us? TrueHoosier62 1 Quote

Why not us? There are also a very select few elite coaches. Surely you don't think I'm arguing Crean to be a better coach than K, Self, Cal (w/ recruiting) and Izzo? Who should we go for? I feel like this is where the argument always goes...the only one among those is Pitino, and IU didn't want him when he wanted IU. Which, ironically, you can put on Bobby Knight and the admin. Quote
Brass Cannon Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 We need to try somebody else. We need to get rid of Crean and try somebody new and see if they are the one to bring us back since it's obviously not Crean. TrueHoosier62 1 Quote

I guess I have a little more respect for Knights coaching ability Quote
WayneFleekHoosier Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 I don't have that answer. I'm not sure Crean can't get there too be honest. Kansas knows how to do it. Larry Brown-----Roy Williams-------Bill Self. (Some UK style stuff going on though). Brad Stevens is the pipe dream. I think Billly Donovan could get those results. I think Tony Bennett is working miracles. Crean has had 3/5 seasons pretty darn good. Iron out some consistency. Get a little better with roster management. Keep improving in game management. He had enough success, he has earned more time. Just worried he can't get over this hump. Hoping he can. Class of '66 Old Fart and HoosierAloha 2 Quote
