VO5 Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 Alright, I know everyone is coming up with sources these days. So take this FWIW. Just talked to an old college roommate who knows someone with connections to the athletic department. This guy apparently says Crean is for sure gone at the end of the season and IU is trying to help him land somewhere. Just confirming what all the other sources are saying about Crean. I know this doesn't help with a new coach but wanted to post it. Happydaze, Kepner, Stuhoo and 2 others 5 Quote

I'm no lawyer but Glass is. If Wilson was really treating his players the way it was reported, he needed to go - for legal reasons if nothing else. The university would have been sued. So I'd hardly say he forced Wilson out. Wilson made his own bed. Tom White 1 Quote

Popular Post Walking Boot of Doom Posted March 7, 2017 Popular Post Posted March 7, 2017 Alford would do well at IU. I really believe that. He's has evolved. He understands IU more than any coach in College Basketball. He bridges the gap to RMK. Would repair relationships with IN HS coaches. And he'd most likely being Wilkes with him. While certainly not a home run, he checks more boxes than Clappy. I'll take anyone to get Crean out of this state.Sent from my SM-G935P using BtownBanners mobile appAlford resume after 22 years coaching at Iowa, New Mexico, and UCLA:- never made it past the S16- missed the tournament 12 times- the alleged rape cover up at IowaSounds like worse results than Crean, with a much, much shittier character. He has missed the tournament all together almost half of his time. Who cares about bridging gaps to RMK at this point? What does that do for 16 year olds who weren't alive when he was at IU? Pleasing people 35 and over does not win games. Recruiting is more about pleasing AAU coaches than HS coaches. So I think that relationship is overblown. Other than that I agree with everything you said.Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app Jeff_Boy_Ardee, IU Hoosier41, hsrtxp and 2 others 5 Quote

I think the whole thing is closer being done than we know, and it's not Alford. Quote
HoosierSadaseci Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 The one positive that I can see from Alford coaching IU would be that he can mend relations with Indiana high school and AAU coaches, which will help with recruiting...Other than that I got nothing. Kepner 1 Quote
Popular Post Zeke Posted March 7, 2017 Popular Post Posted March 7, 2017 Exactly. If BS was our #1 and said no and BD was our #2 and won't commit then what does that say about how the IU job is viewed? If IU is still so great and a blue blood then why do we have to settle for 3rd,4th, or 5th choices? Are there such deep issues in the athletic department that high profile coaches don't want any part of? Is Fred Glass the problem? This is silly ...1. Brad Stevens is experiencing lots of success in Boston.... He's not saying no because IU is a mess... This guy just coached the NBA Eastern Conference All Stars. 2. Donovan.... From what I've read, it's a timing thing.. it might even be the case that he wanted to coach through the playoffs and IU wanted him to commit now...Again, he's not giving IU the finger by not committing ..These 2 were "pie in the sky" reaches. So our 3rd 4th or 5th choices may very well be the top 2-3 AVAILABLE coaches. Let's not freak out. Sent from my XT1650 using BtownBanners mobile app Walking Boot of Doom, Btownclouds, A.j. pumpfake Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 Why in the world would we want a coach who was no longer wanted by Iowa? Heck, maybe we should be targeting Bruce Weber for cryin' out loud! woodenshoemanHoosierfan, mark1981, ThompsonHoosier and 4 others 7 Quote

Maynard Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 I say IU hire Cheaney with Fife as his head assistant and brings Bailey back as well. If Alford wants to be the head equipment manager that's cool. Of that doesn't work out they should see if Jerry Sloan is available. Quote

JSHoosier Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 I've been as vocal against Crean as anyone on this board, for a couple of years now. He's been overrated as a recruiter and he's a mediocre in-game coach. That being said, if the choice was Steven Alford or Tom Crean I'd take Tom Crean after a kick to the groin.
