TOM CREAN FIRED

Recommended Posts

Really insightful and I like the perspective of his knowledge of IU athletics. What is very telling how time was spent on Glass and Crean. Specifically how Glass started in 09 right after Crean, so he's been there the whole ride. Then discussing truly great AD's like Orwig and how Glass legacy will always be tied to Indiana basketball. Kinda like what we have been saying.

I haven't been part of that thinking, but I thought it was a good interview from someone who has been around the program for various publications since the beginning of Crean's tenure.

On a serious note any prayers you can can say would be great. My wifes mammogram didnt come back good and we are going back for further tests tomorrow. Fingers crossed it's ok but you never know. We will fight either way as she is an awfully strong willed woman.

Prayers to your family, having gone thru this with my wife 6 yeara ago, it's not easy, but a positive attitude does wonders in the fight.

I played college ball so I get that you hear info about other sports before others, but I don't recall it ever being info like this. Granted I played NAIA ball so it's not near the scale of a premier D1 program,  but still......I'm very hesitant to even entertain this kid's tweet as even rumor

I'm not an insider by any means; however, based on my one source in the college hoops world, there could be some truth to the rumor of Crean to NC State and Billy D to Indiana.  Archie Miller is towards the top of a lot of our wish lists.  I've been told that he will most likely not be at Dayton next year and that he originally had eyes for Indiana and Ohio State.  Was subsequently told that he will likely end up in Columbus next year or the following year, meaning he won't be in Bloomington.  Maybe that means the IU job is already spoken for (Billy D), maybe not.  Hopefully so.

I also believe that Archie Miller will coach at Ohio State. I think he's just waiting for Matta to retire. Like you said, hopefully Billy Donovan is what IU gets. And I do believe they will

Who is Lynol Anderson?

He's the trainer you see running around chest bumping the players all the time. Seems like a great guy, but I'm not convinced his training methods help a basketball team given our consistent injuries. That and the fact the Tommy has to try to constantly anticipate when the players will "hit the wall" to satisfy his frenetic need to substitute.

Not sure why people think IU has an abnormal amount of injuries. Juwan Morgan and JBJ both has pre-existing injuries from high school that reoccurred (fairly normal for high level athletes) and then there was OG's injury, which was just highly unfortunate. Am I missing some massive number of freak, uncommon injuries?

You forgot to include Hartman. He also had significant leg issues before arriving at IU.

Hartman twice, JBJ twice, walking boots of doom for every player over 6'8". Rojo last year. If you believe Tom Crean, our whole roster, every year, every game.

I think the pre existing injury thing carries most weight. And players trying to play through them.

I agree.  Every team has injuries.  You just hear about them more when they become an excuse for under performing.  I used to always chuckle when Don Fischer would start off IU Football broadcasts with "A banged-up Hoosier football team takes on..."  It's November.  EVERY football team is banged up.  But, he knew we were going to get waxed, so the excuses began before the game even started.

For me, it's the quantity and consistency. Yes, some had previous injuries, but look at the ones throughout the year. Johnson wasn't able to play against NC the last game of last year, OG missed time before his ACL, and Morgan is missing time for other injuries than his shoulder. Vonleh missed several games too. It seems that it is rare to be at full strength under Crean. Players are always in walking boots. Or maybe that's just Crean making excuses.

I suspect a number of injuries are a result of over training, or something like that.  I recall several years ago listening to an interview with Pete Rose where the interviewer asked him about the increasing number of injuries.  He basically said that today's players (at that time citing Eric Davis) tended to get injured more often because they were so lean and finely tuned.  He cited his own durability and attributed it to having some cushion (fat) on his bones. LOL.  I think there's some truth to this, but it applies to all sports and all teams - every team's fans think they have too many critical injuries (when Mo Creek had his two fluke injuries, Hummel went through two blown out knees as an example).
