Collegiate sports generate extraordinary revenue to universities both in public relations and monetary value. Tom Crean has added value to IU since his arrival. Unfortunately, too many Indiana fans' self-esteem is derived only from IU Basketball winning games and participating in March Madness.  Hence the unrest and upheaval to fire a good coach. Please remember Bobby Knight was fired by the university for rogue behavior. And for those who say Knight won the "right way" then why did IU let go football coach Kevin Wilson after having the best two consecutive seasons in about 30 years?

That's kinda the point of college basketball.

Collegiate sports generate revenue because fans are willing to pay for entertainment that they perceive to have higher value than the alternative things they could do with their time.

Once fans no longer value the entertainment in the same way, that revenue will start to decline.
