How in the hell did UNLV, Wyoming, and St. John's get into the convo? So if Indiana has a good stretch its no big deal cause Crean sucks. If Purdue has a bad stretch its well Crean sucked 6 weeks ago. Lol OK

Don't be so ignorant mdn82, teams cannot grow and develop over the course of a season. We are what we were, and nothing can change that.

As a long time supporter of TC, I'll admit he has earned this thread, and probably done irrefutable damage to his chances of coaching at IU beyond his current contract. That being said, unless we can get BS,or some other home run hire,I don't see anything happening before his contract runs out. As much as some of you wish. Like my dad used to say wish in one hand...and no see which one fills up first.

you are going a bit far with this sarcastic statement. Yes teams grow and develop and it looks like and I hope it proves true we have improved and are better than we were. The fact that we have played in two games where we didn't look like clowns for half the game. Ohio state and craighton imo. At Nebraska gets honorable mention. Let's get excited for our team and cheer our you know what off for them but also we have major problems that are not to far in past do let's not pretend were big ten contenders yet or anything. I hope we are but alot to prove yet.

Wasn't implying we're around the bend and gunning for a banner, more pointing out that early season performance is a terrible indicator of how good the team is now. They've clearly learned how to play better defensively as a team, and turnovers are decreasing. As you pointed out, it is yet to be seen whether the recent performances against Wisky and OSU are going to be norm.

it is yet to be seen if it is the norm so if it isn't the norm they really haven't improved then right? Don't bother answering that because it wasn't a serious question. It definitely appears we have improved and numbers back that up. I was just cautioning you because this season could still easily wind up being a major disappointment.

RIght.  But when I wrote what I did about Purdue, they were playing well.  I didn't have a crystal ball handy to let me know they'd pee down their leg at Illinois yesterday.  When Indiana lost to UNLV, they looked absolutely awful.   So when someone writes "Yeah...how'd Purdue do today?" what's the point?  When I wrote it, they were exceptional.  Goes both ways.

Crean has a 17 year resume for people to look at.  One game against Ohio State at home doesn't change anything.   Just means we looked great for 40 minutes.  I would love to believe yesterday was the point at which Crean's career turns around and he becomes a consistent winner and that becomes the norm.   Everyone can decide for himself whether or not that's what happened.

actually we looked great for 20 minutes, not 40. That second half was not good basketball. We let J.Lyle to the lid at will. I hated our 2nd half, but I suppose it's hard to play killer D up by 25-30.

I'm talking about this team, not his other 17. This team may be coming into their own, and how a game at the beginning of the year really loses relevance as the season progresses.

Appreciate your objectivity here but he can't recruit if he has only 1, maybe even just two years left on a contract. The ambiguity about him being the coach would difficult to overcome and he would leave us with 2 weak classes for the new coach.

With about 2 years (if not before) left he will have to be fired or extended.

Following you thought process then maybe after the 2017-18 season would be the time frame if he was to be fired,I believe his contact runs through 2019-2020.

Would it really be difficult to overcome? A good coach could take 3 star players and develop a good team. Besides, a top coach coming in would bring in a few transfers or last minute to decide top ranked players.

Coaching and developing a team of three stars is not what is hard to overcome (for the next coach). The fact that many already see TCs seat as hot and if he gets to the final year or two of his contract he will struggle to convince any recruit to come. That is what will be difficult for (TC) to overcome.

That is why this idea of honoring contracts is garbage if assumed literally. Look at Wilson. We did not wait until his current contract expired before signing him to an extension. The same for a guy you don't plan to keep. Once you get to 2 years left coaches are fired or extended.

I'd be shocked if he's our coach that long (2019-2020.)  He needs a miracle run here soon to keep his job IMO.

Crean said it himself, it's Indiana. We should ALWAYS be ranked. We should be in EVERY dance. We should ALWAYS make it out of the first game of the dance.

Crean has only done that once correct? he's been here 8 years...
