I was out to lunch when I heard it on the radio. My wife and I both started laughing while shaking our heads. The man is nuts. God love him. Can't say I'm surprised or shocked by the comments. Pretty much knew he felt this way for years.

Those statements he made were absolutely ridiculous. You got fired from your college basketball coaching position. I mean we all get fired up about IU, but in the end it's a game. To harbor that kind of grudge shows what kind of person he really is. I feel sorry for him. Must be miserable.

I disagree. At the end of the day, it was HIS career and HIS legacy. It's not just s game to coach Knight. To you, it is a game, to him it was his livelihood.

He clearly still appreciates the fans in Indiana for their support and devotion all those years, but the IU Admin burnt the bridge 17 years ago and they're the only one's who would have anything to gain by his returning for a cameo appearance.

Sorry, but he doesn't still appreciate the fans in Indiana.  Do you honestly think he appreciates anyone who continued to root for Indiana after he was gone?  He was a great coach.  But he also exemplified behaviors that when portrayed by players on his team he wouldn't have begun to tolerate and he long ago made this it about an 'either Knight or Indiana' situation.

the guy was fired for being a prick to most everyone he came across .... so many people have been fired for far less and ...... got over it!

I wish he would come back to AH, but if he doesn't want to then who cares. It's his life. He will forever be connected to IU and will probably be the first person anyone thinks about when thinking about Indiana basketball for a long long time and that's pretty cool.

Do you remember the quote from him on the issue of being fired how the big person wronged in all of this was his son Pat, who was now out of job?  As if Pat Knight would have been on anyone's staff at that point in his life except his dad's...much like he wouldn't have played for any division one team except one coached by him.

I'm not sure that's really an apples to apples comparison though.. There are numerous reasons for people to not like Bob Knight, I just don't think this is one of them.

the comments weren't that off putting to me, personally. I don't care if he has hate in his heart for the former administration, I mean it's a little disconcerting I guess but my personal mythology about him doesn't include a whole lot of benevolence. He said he loved the fans but clearly that isn't enough for him to, as he sees it, extend an olive branch to IU even if it's all but symbolic at this point given that Clarence and Kit and others aren't there anymore.

you're right .... if i get fired, i might get a lousy 6 weeks pay .... he got paid for YEARS after .... poor guy .... 

i have lots of respect for him as a coach but he got fired, got paid and is still crying after 17 years .... its one of the numerous reasons for people to not like him as a man

We know this much he was absolutely not a big fan of Myles Brand. I think he still isn't over the fact of why he got fired in the first in the place but then you have to wonder if it was the Neil Reed situation that got him fired or if Brand just simply found another way to fire him.

Am I the only here that doesn't really care about this? I mean Knight was a great coach, possibly the greatest, but I don't lose sleep at night knowing he's still pouting about being dismissed because he choked a player and was an all-around d1ck in other situations.

I really hate how so many journalists and announcers just seem to assume that all IU fans are slobbering for some kind of IU/Knight reunion.  I know I'm not.  I mean it's like IU is supposed to get down on our collective hands and knees and beg for his forgiveness.  F that.  Dude was a tremendously gifted basketball coach and I was a huge fan growing up, but he absolutely 100% got what he deserved in the end.  Nothing more to discuss.

If you were one of the best in the history of your profession, led your company to the most successful years in its history, and were then fired I imagine you would be pretty upset. I know that I would, and I think I would carry that grudge for a long time. I'm not arguing one way or the other about whether he deserved to be fired. I just don't think it's that crazy that he's still mad 17 years later.

That is a long time man. I don't think anyone would completely expect anyone to forget, but it takes a lot to hold a grudge that big that long. I can honestly say in my 35 years I never hoped a group of people die.
