Brutal stretch of games besides Iowa. We get a few cupcakes and then another rough stretch of games with @Wisconsin, @Minnesota, Penn State,Northwestern, @Michigan State, and Maryland. Definitely a rough beginning to BIG. The good news is the back half of our schedule is a little more light and hopefully we get more rest that way before heading into the tourney. Is it basketball season yet?? Quote

Not saying these games are not difficult, but I do think we can do a bit of a reset on teams like wisky, @ PSU, etc where we just knew IU was going to struggle with FCTC Hardwood83 and VO5 2 Quote
goonaha Posted August 16, 2017 Posted August 16, 2017 Did a quick spread sheet to do gut predictions. Have us going 22-8. Losses are against Seton Hall, Duke, Michigan, Louisville, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Michigan State (x2). Probably optimistic but I don't think it's a hugely unreasonable record. Feathery 1 Quote

But a team like Northwestern isn't someone to overlook anymore. They'll be solid this year. I think a team like Maryland is on par with us too. Minnesota will be good. Not saying we won't win those games, just saying they'll be tough. Also, the Kohl center officiating is always interesting to say the least. I'm never confident going there. Quote

He shot like 20+ foul shots to IU's 18. VO5 and FortWayneHoosier 1 1 Quote

WayneFleekHoosier Posted August 16, 2017 Posted August 16, 2017 You know one thing that'll be nice about this season. No #tankseasonI hated that half of me was rooting for losses last season. It sucked all the joy out of winning. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners CrossboneIU22, Brass Cannon, VO5 and 3 others 6 Quote
Hoosier Guy Posted August 16, 2017 Posted August 16, 2017 I like 30 games. I hated the concept of 31 games. It didn't even out. I like that about the schedule. Very winnable first two B1G games against Michigan and Iowa. I say IU goes 3-2 in that stretch with an outside shot at 4-1 Quote
OliviaPope40 Posted August 16, 2017 Posted August 16, 2017 At Michigan isn't going to be easy who knows what will happen in Clear Hills. Minnesota in the barn won't be easy either. Quote
Uspshoosier Posted August 16, 2017 Posted August 16, 2017 Per last year's KenPom, IU will face three top 50 non-con teams, one ranked 50-100, four ranked 100-200, three ranked 200-300, one sub-300Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners ALASKA HOOSIER and HoosierAloha 2 Quote

HoosierAloha Posted August 18, 2017 Posted August 18, 2017 Speaking of a better schedule... FCTC spoke a lot of wanting to get opponents on the schedule but unable to work it out. The SOS has been a topic of debate under FCTC for awhile. Typically, I make an initial judgement on a specific subject but to really take a side I need research (numbers, analysis). When individual opponents were being released I thought our schedule would be better than it has for awhile. After running the numbers, on paper from opponent's previous years KenPom/RPI, we have a better schedule than any single year under FCTC. The numbers (averages): (2017-2018) KenPom - 158, RPI - 164 (2016-2017) KenPom - 202, RPI - 185 (2015-2016) KenPom - 171, RPI - 179 (2014-2015) KenPom - 195, RPI - 248 (2013-2014) KenPom - 167, RPI - 168 (2012-2013) KenPom - 189, RPI - 200 (2011-2012) KenPom - 202, RPI - 190 I feel pretty confident that our noncon SOS will only get better with time under CAM too. When I get a chance, I'll try to look up the medians of each year. The averages look for a couple years look really close, but the issue was the amount of glut. For instance, last year the marquee games pushed the averages down of the super cupcakes. Our RPI/KP list probably looked like this: 2,6,9,18,150,250,275,280,290,300,310,320,330.
