Recommended Posts

Firing coach...our starting lineup! Let's put our best defensive 5 out there to begin the game. Only need to go 8 deep as well in the rotation!!

DGreen- I'm still behind this. Too much confidence

RoJo

JMorg

OG

DeRon

----

TB-yes I really feel this way. Only for CTCs "system"

JBJ

CuJo-only bc we have no one else. Need bulking up BADLY!!!!!

THATS IT!

Not MAJOR players, well the rest of the roster

Newkirk I'm sorry, is just way way in over his head fellas. Hate it for the kid bc he tries so hard to not make a mistake. Plays too nervous!

WE WANT/NEED HARTMAN!!!!!!!!!!

Mercifully Mrs. OF and I had a road trip to take and I couldn't watch the second half.

1.  Accountability and pine time regardless of who it is.

2.  Less Newkirk; he had a year to understudy Yogi and he's had a third of this season and he ain't cuttin' it.   CTC needs to acknowledge that his Newkirk experiment is a bust and his minutes severly reduced,

3.  More Davis.  He's been very productive in the minutes he's played and yes, I know he started today but he only played 18 minutes.  Again, I didn't see the second half, but from the box score I know his limited minutes weren't due to fouls.  In his 18 minutes he had 8 points and 8 rebounds of which 6 were on the offensive glass.   He also only had 1 TO.  Bryant played 26 minutes, scored 8 points, only had 3 reb. and 2 TO.  I don't know what it is about this season but TB just doesn't look comfortable on the floor to me and Davis seems so much more smoother.

4.  I think a healthy Hartman would make a huge difference in terms of leadership for this team but in his absence no one else is stepping up and that's a huge disappointment.  Maybe leadership qualities aren't considered that important in our recruiting philosophy that not a single player appears to be making an effort to be a leader.

OK, that's my 2 cents worth.

Yes, it should be part of the recruiting philosophy but isn't. The philosophy is "everyone should be a leader" because that makes sense.

Leadership is a pyramid not has it. Those people usually fall in line behind the leaders.

Move away from "positionless basketball". All that means to me is you dont have a PG bc you recruited poorly. Illinois has been playing this way for the Groce era...lol.

Instead of focusing on run run run, bring back the pro-sets from the Marquette days. Crean supposed had a huge playbook that he shelved on favor of the current offense. Which is great until teams get up into us and we have to rely on positionless basketball to break the defense down.

Changes need to start at the top. This isnt meant as fore Crean. I mean Crean sets the tone for how the team will play and he needs to be the one to make the changes.  Benching OG isnt the answer.

I'd like to see our starters (and those who get the majority of our minutes) be:

Robert Johnson
James Blackmon
OG
De'Ron Davis
Thomas Bryant

With the first 2 subs off the bench being Morgan and Curtis Jones, I think this lineup could really build something towards later in the season.

JBJ should be benched every time he is lazy on defense.  Which means he would be benched quite a lot.  I don't care if he is our leading scorer, when you give up points more than you score, double sometimes, it's not helping the team.  TB hasn't improved since last season, get someone on the coaching staff that can coach a big man.  McRoberts is averaging 10 minutes a game, which is 10 minutes too many.

Starting lineup:

RJ

JBJ

OG

TB at PF

Davis at C

Off the bench

Newkirk

Morgan

Curtis Jones

Green

I called this Newkirk thing last year. Knew Crean would stick with him no matter what. Seen it before. He needs to go to the bench. JBJ as well needs more time on the pine. Other than that Im having a hard time blaming the guys right now.

He still may become a strong contributor but too many people were ready to crown him great before he even played a game. I could see why he would look great in practice. His speed would allow him to drive by our weak defenders pretty easily.

Absolutely with ya brother. We NEED more Davis! Less Newkirk. This whole game was so frustrating to watch but I thought MAYBE we would go into the locker room and make the adjustments. I know that's asking a bit much! But it's so obvious, when we are playing elite level talent that JN is simply in over his head!

Davis just has that feel for the defender in the post, something TB doesn't have. Knows how to properly seal the defender and keep him sealed. TB can get position but between receiving the pass he loses his feel

JBJ and TB off the bench would provide a spark

For the record, I'm not placing blame here.

First, we need some sets. We started off the game with a set yesterday. The idea was Bryant to get a wide open drive to the basketball from the three point line, it didn't work.

We need more sets for Blackmon and Rojo to get wide open threes. We need more sets to get Bryant the ball in the post, not at the three point line. Davis has played much better lately, could we get some high low action with Thomas and Davis perhaps? Crazy idea I know.

Our motion offense is hard to watch, it really is. It looks like we've made some changes to it though so I guess that's a start. I know a couple times we had a some elevator action so that's cool.

How about Ville though? They scouted us great. They had flare screens which we can't guard to save our life. They had pick and rolls which is another weakness of our. They also ran a little horns action up top which really hurt us.

Anyways, our offense could use some more sets. I'd like to see a new line up as well, bare with me. We don't have a true PG.

Blackmon
Rojo
OG
Morgan
Tommy

I think this could allow the offense to get James involved more, would also improve our defense and rebounding with Morgan in the starting line up. One thing a lot of people mentioned before the season started is that we're very deep. No, no we're not. Honestly the only players that I'd bring off the bench would be Cujo, Green, and Davis. Josh, Freddie, McRoberts, Gelon wouldn't touch the floor if I were the coach.

Losing Collin really hurt us this year.

1)   A leader. Someone who understands what to do, how and when to do it, and someone who understands what Indiana Basketball is about.

2)  An offensive system.  Period.   If transition 3's aren't falling, we have nothing.    Never have under Crean.

3)  An attitude.  We are generally a soft team, mentally and physically

4)  Someone.  ANYone to tell these kids turnovers are not okay.   Neither are quick, bad shots.

5)  A point guard who can actually handle the ball and run an offense

6)  A basketball mind (an x and o and game plan guy) on the bench

7)  Help defense that has any chance to help

Our 2017 recruiting class is very weak, we still don't have a point guard, we have nobody signed for 2018.   Anyone else seeing some red flags, here?

You can't sign anyone for 2018 yet. Other than that, number 3 is the biggest for me. You can play fast without careless mistakes. One handed passes to the stands. Dribbling to the baseline drives me nuts. As a team our vision is bad. Our ball handling is bad. Our decisions are bad. That limits us to transition 3's.

Crean makes way too much money to have an offense completely reliant on transition.  There's a reason Butler beats us every time we play them.
