The Delaware State Cupcakes Hornets (3-9) pay a visit to Assembly Hall this evening at 8:00 E.T.   Should be a rout and rinse a little of the bad taste out of our collective mouths after the Butler loss.  One remaining non-conference game at home against Austin Peay on the 22nd and then the real season starts on the 28th with a home opener against Nebraska and its newly non-tweeting head coach Tim Miles.

As irrelevant as this game is to anything and everything, a little fact for consideration:

Delaware State has played 12 games so far this season. They have three wins: against Division III Summit College, against Division III Keystone State, and against the once proud, now truly and completely pitiful...

St. Johns.

A poster on the Johnnies board as Penn State was going on a 28-1 1st half run against them over the weekend:

"I didn't think it could get worse than St Thomas Aquinas or Incarnate Word or Delaware State or LIU Brooklyn but this is...just...
something else."

This horse has been beaten to death but I just don't get these games. Are schools like this the only ones who will come here? Are we afraid that we will lose if we schedule better? As hard as it is to watch us lose to IPFW and Butler, it's worse to watch us beat the crap out of way over-matched teams. I guess the silver lining is that this part of the schedule is just about over and will actually have to start playing every night.

I've never understood why we don't schedule MAC teams. They aren't good, and we aren't paying them to travel thousands of miles to come here.

I predict we'll see one of the following outcomes/reactions tonight:

1) Win by 10 or less: "OMG, we suck so bad! We don't deserve to be ranked! Fire Crean now!"

2) Win by 10-20: "We're terrible. We just are."

3) Win by 20-30: "There are so many things we suck at."

4) Win by 30-40: "Games like this are pointless. We aren't good."

5) Lose: BTownBanners breaks the internet and ceases to exist.

Are any MAC schools in the 250+ range?

Miami is 293. Next lowest is Western Michigan at 206, then Bowling Green at 193.

Tonight's opponent is 339. Mississippi Valley St. is currently 343 with a record of 0-11. Austin Peay is 308.

Our non con schedule is actually pretty decent this year. We will always have some cupcakes.

We used to all the time. IU even played at Millett Hall ( Miami OH) under Knight.

I still have a hangover from the Butler loss. This win will not go very far for my recovery. But, GO HOOSIERS!

A win over UL would go a long way but I don't see is getting it done. The cupcakes are there to develop young players and for Crean to par his record.

Purely out of curiosity, does anyone have an idea of what kind of $$ schools receive to come and get their a$$ kicked but occasionally take the money and still get a 'W'?

I'll do some research during breaks, but I think for some schools in B-ball it can get into the low 6 figures/game.
