HoosierAloha Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 Agree with a lot of that. However, if DD and Moore are the only "bigs" on the roster next season we won't have the season we would expect to have at IU. He seems like a poor mans Malik Williams. There's a place on the roster for him but not as the backup 5. VO5 and bhaggard89 2 Quote
WayneFleekHoosier Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 Here's the issue... Many of us fancy ourselves as one of the big boys on the verge of top 5-10 program status. It's not so much WHO we are GETTING as it is WHO we are MISSING. It's just a recruiting reminder that we aren't one of the big boys yet and rarely recruit successfully against those teams without extenuating circumstances.Moore seems very promising in an underrated way, but it's the X,Y,Z we miss on before that causes the frustration IMO. Here it goes... wasn't it 20 and 12 just a few hours ago? AJ Hammons dropped 30, 5, and 5 on Zeller, did that make Hammons a better player than Zeller? I've said there's a place on the roster for him. That role would see him getting solid minutes as a freshman. However, if he's seeing significant minutes at the 4 or backing up the 5 for long stretches (DD in foul trouble) IU will not be where we should be. Quote

While Hammons was not as good a player as Cody, Hammons showed as far back as high school that he was going to be a really good college player, as evidenced in part by his ability to have a big game in high school against players the caliber of Cody.As for CMoore, I'm pretty sure that when IU is recruiting him, they are doing so with no illusions that he will ever play significant minutes at the 5, especially as a freshman.BTW, had their recruitments been successful, I'm pretty sure that the same IU coaching staff had no intention of ever using Malik Williams or Jaren Jackson for significant minutes at the 5. That's kind of my point. CMoore might be able to have A game that caliber but can't he do it consistently? I have my doubts. There are other examples of a player outshining Zeller for a game but not many doing it for an entire season. And that's the reference to the "poor man's ...." While Moore might be able to shoot, handle, and defend on the perimeter I don't see him doing it at the speed of Williams or Jackson Jr. My issue isn't so much with CMoore alone but not having an idea of what big will be playing the 5. If we land CMoore as our only "big" (same would have been said about Williams or Jackson to an extent) we will have issues meeting expectations in 2017-2018. VO5 1 Quote

Hovadipo Posted September 20, 2016 Posted September 20, 2016 I don't see him as the "last ditch", "everyone has denied us and this is our last option" guy that many are seemingly making him out to be. It very well could be a guy to stick on the end of the bench for a little bit to contribute later on. I don't get the negativity on this since the heavy part of crootin' season is just under way. WayneFleekHoosier Posted September 20, 2016 Posted September 20, 2016 Maybe not the last ditch but he's 3 doors down near the ditches northwestern and ole miss are hanging out. Fact is, Crean thinks he found a diamond. No Jackson, No Williams, No Bamba, No Richards, No etc. He did find Yante Maten, OG, Holt, Hoetzel, among others. Those are good/great finds. Sure he can do it again. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners Quote

I'm not all in on the kid being the caliber of Williams or Jackson. However, he could play a role in the team. Quote

Sent from my iPad using BtownBannersNot my point. He isn't the last possible guy we can sign. This isn't April or May or whenever we got Apriller. I agree with almost everyone here that if this is our answer for missing on Wilkes or the other few stud 3/4's we're after, then yikes. But I'm not of the opinion that Moore is that. WayneFleekHoosier Posted September 20, 2016 Posted September 20, 2016 I think he can have a spot and all but when do you see Duke, MSU, UK, UNC, Arizona, UCLA, etc, etc doing these crazy shenanigans with recruiting. Ultimately if we recruit like ole miss, over time inevitably, we will play like ole miss. If this guy is for Prillers spot or even Hartman's then whatever, roll the dice. Like I said before, he has hit home runs before so half of me thinks this could be another it's just a riskier venture in the end. It seems to be the measures we have to resort to year in and year out. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners Napleshoosier 1 Quote

Bowhunter Posted September 20, 2016 Posted September 20, 2016 We want to be like the Elite teams we once were a part of 40 years ago. Everybody always talks about the Oladipo and OG diamond in the rough players. Yeah, I like those guys too, but if we want to be consistently good year after year, we are going to need those type of players along side the Ones we keep missing. Too many what ifs for my liking. Just because we land top 20 recruits doesn't mean Oladipo doesn't turn into a stud or OG doesn't come here. We have room for all of them. It's the offering scholarships early to way too many average kids that shouldn't even be on our radar . It's ending up with projects because we miss on Indiana's finest that bothers me.
