Moore certainly is a potential matchup nightmare with that length.

He is a 3-4 in playing style. Same with Wilkes and Smith.

Maybe we just say "screw conventions, we running with 5 wings in the floor".

Is Moore our backup for Wilkes?

Not the entire story, doc.

Moore is a 3/4 on offense.

On the defensive end, he projects as a 4 until he gains some weight, and after a year or two of camp Lionel, I've gotta imagine he could guard most 5s. Maybe not a 280 guy like Haas, but pretty much any other 5 once he gets up to 225+.

Besides, he's an athletic kid with a good jumpshot and an even better handle for his size, he's on the rise in the eyes of many coaches (not an MSB-style drastic overreach), and he's academically outstanding.

I wasn't knocking him and you are correct. But his coach said he doesn't want to be guarding 5s.

That is why I said 3-4. A 3-4 on offense and a 3-4 on D. Great weak side shot blocking ability.

He intrigues me. Part of me wants this kid if we had space.

I just don't see us getting an instant impact freshman big, and I think that Deng Gak gives me way too many Hanner-flashbacks; I prefer Moore to Gak.

My question is, will we have room for Moore and a 5th year wider-body? That'd be my preference.

Tis True. Now that the 5 star options are out of picture, this is sounding pretty good. Agree with Gak worry. Wish we had more to gauge though. No sample with mop up minutes.

And, for those who gravitate toward rankings, Moore and Gak aren't all that far apart anymore, though admittedly, Gak's offer list seems to be better (unless the high-end programs are all slow-playing him).

This is where Crean's recruiting baffles me. Durham gave his verbal in October (I think) and then he went out and got two guards for the 2016 class. I understand getting a guard or two if one is an instant impact guy. I don't understand signing three decent to good guards in one class and then having another commit in the following class that is just solid.

If all those guards aren't signed/committed we have the option to get a guy like Moore plus push for another big. I highly doubt it happens but there's potential for 8 guards on the roster in '17-'18. That's goofy and terrible roster balance.

Crean clearly recruits a type of player, regardless of position. We saw that cause serious issues in 2014 with Vonleh's team, but otherwise it's working for him. I think there's a lot of uncertainty around JBJ and who will take on the PG role, and for an offense that's driven mainly from the wings/perimeter/transition, that's a pretty daunting question mark. He must also be very confident in DD and Morgan's ability to defend the 5 over the next few years.

My only worry is "taller players" wishing to play on the wing and not in the post, the 4 (for some players), or the 5 (for some other players) and it coming back to bite Crean and the staff. If Moore says he doesn't want to play the 5 but we stick him at the 5 because we don't have a backup that could ruin it for future recruits. The same goes for wings not wanting to play the 4.

Called the "Noah Vonleh Conundrum".

Although he shouldn't complain as it worked out pretty well for him.

I think the issue there was he told the staff 2 years then left.

He reclassed to go a year early. I don't think the staff was under that impression.

I think the staff thought, in part, due to the reclass he would be a 2 year player. They certainly weren't prepared for him to leave. That tells me a lot.

It may not have been expressly discussed during recruiting but everything tells me they expected 1 more year from him.

Edit- my wording sucked in first post with "he said".
