I agree.  I would feel differently if he was picking between IU and UK, Purdouche or OSU.  HATE THOSE SCHOOLS.

I just think Garland would elevate us a lot next year and give me higher expectations for the team. That’s where the stress comes in. Without him we don’t have as much playmaking ability and we need it.

Honestly, given the current roster, I think it's imperative to have one eye on the team, one eye on recruits.

The current class we have makes us really good in 3-4 years.  The class we COULD have makes us good in 1-2...

I want Garland.   I truly do.  But I'm telling you, boys....Phinisee is a 4-year kid who will be a terrific Big Ten point guard.   Garland is a great player.  I would LOVE to have him.  But he would also be a luxury.  I would be very happy with the current class if that's all we had.  Of course I want the big tickets.....but Phinisee is the one I really wanted because he's terrific and he'll be here 4 years.

Not that it matters in the grand scheme of things but with Garland we'd jump to the #1 class in 2018.

All of these Vandy picks are creating way too much smoke for me not to think there'S something there. Legit question.... how often does this type of swing happen in the crytal ball for them to all be wrong? I'd bet that it's not very likely at all. I'd love to be optimistic here but I'm just not feeling it. The fact Romeo has Vandy in his final 3 convinced me that Garland is going there and he has knowledge of it. There is zero reason for Vandy to be on his list of 3 other than to play with Garland. Not buying any other rationalization. They all seem desperate.

It's concerning for me too, but I also don't think that Vandy wouldn't be on his list if it weren't for Garland.  RL has continously put out there that location is important to him.  And, if memory serves, his three closest visits (maybe save KU and of course ignoring UL) are in his top 3.  If you look at most of the CB picks for Garland, they are all Duke insiders (lord knows why they switched), Vandy insiders or national recruiting guys that have not been involved like Rabby has.

I think people are really losing sight of this. I'm in the camp that thinks Phinisee is much better than his ranking and is a great TRUE point guard...... need Romeo though. If we lose Romeo to Vandy, I'll probably never invest another minute of my life watching/tracking/supporting Indiana's top players. It will hurt that much.

You have to remember, we were out of the picture with Romeo for a while.  We have never been the team to beat.   I want him too; but I just can't see Vanderbilt for him.

Agreed.  IF Garland picks Vandy, he might give them a more serious look, but he knows what he would mean to Indiana if he goes there, and I think he's smart enough to pick that.

If Garland opts for Vandy...we can live with this, right?  This is against some top AAU competition at North Central High School over the summer.  Watch how he gets into the paint. Notice the vision.  The confidence.  This kid (Phinsee) is going to be a terrific player.   (Yes, I really like him, and I'll stand firmly by my statement many months ago that he's the one I really wanted in this class.   I love Romeo.  But he's a 1 year player.  We got my horse)

Yes but then you better be patient because it will take a few years. It's the differnce in being good next year or being good in 3 years.

No way in hell he goes to vandy. He will pick Kansas if not iu. And these crystal ball picks don't concern me. Those guys are guessing. I doubt they know anything.

The idea scenario would be to have Garland for two years while Phinisee is developing, maybe even redshirt Phinisee if he wants.  What's better than 4 years of Phinisee?  5 years of Phinisee!

How comfortable is CAM in using the redshirt?  Doesn't seem like it's something done much anymore.

No one knows that for sure. We could land Garland and still not live up to expectations or we could miss on him and meet our expectations. Getting Garland makes IU better on paper but doesn’t guarantee anything

I would offer to let any recruit Redshirt. Gotta think parents would love the idea unless the kid is expecting to go to the NBA in less than 4 years.
