2017 IUFB Recruiting

Recommended Posts

Guess we're looking to add 5 or 6 more.

Cincinnati LaSalle athlete Jarell White is taking an unofficial visit to Indiana this weekend, and is looking to make it a productive one.

"Seeing the campus, talk with some other coaches, get a good vibe of the school," White said of what he hopes to get out of the visit. "And hopefully an offer."

Indiana wouldn't be the first to extend an offer to White. Iowa, Iowa State, Kentucky, Illinois, Purdue, Colorado State, UC and a few MAC schools have all offered, White said. He's looking to possibly visit Pitt the weekend after his IU visit.

Running backs coach Deland McCullough is the main recruiter for White, but IU is looking at White purely as an athlete, not necessarily as a running back. McCullough, originally from eastern Ohio, was a principal, teacher and coach in Cincinnati for years, and knows the area well.

The 5-foot-10, 200-pound White wants to play running back at the next level, and said college coaches have been impressed with his athleticism. His lateral quickness and breakaway speed make him dangerous at running back and kick returner, and his legs are constantly churning as he fights through tackles.

Indiana has 14 commits in this class, likely looking to add five or six more. There isn't a running back committed yet, but IU head coach Kevin Wilson said recently that running back isn't a huge priority in this class, as the Hoosiers currently don't have a senior at the position.

White has no officials planned at the moment, and is eyeing a decision in December or January.

Recruits/Commits visiting this weekend per Wiltfong.

- The headliner in the 2017 class is running back Devin Darrington out of The Bullis School in Maryland. Ranked by 247Sports as the nation's No. 33 running back and No. 11 player overall in his state, the 5-foot-9, 200-pound Darrington heads to Bloomington for an unofficial with one of his coaches."I look forward to seeing a hype football team and crowd," Darrington said. "I also can't wait to meet Coach Wilson and see how his personality is." Darrington holds over 20 offers including the Hoosiers, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Syracuse and Vanderbilt. "IU is very high on my list, very," he said.

- One of Ohio's best in Cincinnati (Ohio) LaSalle 2017 athlete Jarell White will also be in Bloomington. He is the No. 17 recruit in the Buckeye State per 247Sports. "I plan on just seeing what the campus is about and how everything is around," White said. "This will be my first time going up so I look forward to something special and hopefully an offer soon. They will be in my top five if an offer comes soon."

- Some of the Hoosier State's best 2018s will visit including defensive end Madison Norris, defensive back Julius Brents and linebacker Cameron McGrone who already hold a scholarship. Other prominent 2018s from the home state expected include tight end Anthony Torres and quarterback Bryce Jefferson.

- The top-ranked in-state recruit in 2019 in Top247 receiver David Bell is slated to visit. The Hoosiers have offered.

- Mentor (Ohio) High 2018 quarterback Tadas Tatarunas has garnered a lot of Big Ten interest early in the process.

Many of Indiana's 2017 commits are also expected back in Bloomington.

2017 QB Danny Clark (Archbishop Hoban, OH) decommitted from OSU today and we are on his list.

‏@Birm: Teams to look for potentially with Clark: Kentucky, Indiana, Rutgers are all possibilities, but he'll have a lot of options to explore.

At least he will never forget the day he verbally committed to a school that he will not attend.

The OSU board had nothing but good things to say about this kid. Hopefully CKW can get him.

Wonder if we'll make a contact.

USC has signed permission-to-contact paperwork for redshirt junior quarterback Max Browne.

According to a source close to the situation and confirmed by a USC spokesperson, USC has signed redshirt quarterback Max Browne's permission-to-contact paperwork, allowing him to talk to any NCAA school about a transfer.

Browne received his bachelor's degree in communications from USC in the fall of 2015 and is currently working on his master's degree in business administration.

With his undergraduate degree in hand, Browne can transfer to another FBS program and play without sitting out a season.  He has one year of eligibility remaining and can transfer anywhere, including other Pac-12 schools, to play his redshirt senior season.

According to our source Browne has yet to contact any programs and is keeping all options open.

Browne, the top-rated quarterback and No. 8 national prospect in the class of 2013 according to Scout.com, graduated from high school a semester early and enrolled at USC in the spring of 2013.

As Cody Kessler's backup in 2014 and 2015 Browne completed 11 of 19 passes (57.9%) for 143 yards.

In 2016 Browne was named the starting quarterback for the Trojans after fall camp. He started against Alabama, Utah State and Stanford before Clay Helton announced he was being replaced by redshirt freshman Sam Darnold.

This season Browne has completed 58 of 91 passes for 507 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Max Browne is No. 21 in the nation and No. 5 in the Pac-12 in completion percentage at .637.

Browne will remain on the USC football team and enrolled in school until the end of the fall semester. After the season Browne can transfer to another program and participate in spring football before his final season of eligibility.

'17 Cornerback Donelle Thomas (Opa Locka, Fla./Carol City) favors his offer from Indiana.

"Right now Indiana is the only one that will get an official but I'm just waiting to see who else offers," Thomas said.

He hopes to start setting up official visits following the season.

Thomas said he plans to take all five of his official visits late in the process before making his college choice.

He said South Carolina, Purdue and Illinois are showing interest.

He feels the Illini are closest to offering next.

The three-star recruit is ranked as the nation’s No. 113 safety in the 2017 class by 247SportsComposite.

Thomas (5-10, 185) has four interceptions as a senior. He holds a 3.3 GPA.

The Crystal Ball reads 100-percent for Indiana.
