Quality Young Coaches vs Tom Crean.

Recommended Posts

I think there are many quality coaches that would take the job. There is only 1 coach that would unite the fanbase, everyone else is going to have to earn the respect of a segment one way or the other. I do think the 3 coaches in the OP would come of you are talking about a younger coach. If you want a more experienced coach in college, then I think Gregg Marshall has a tremendous track record. I also would call Billy Donovan bc he might want to come back to college of Durant leaves OKC.

If Durant leaves after this season or Durant and Westbrook are gone after next season Billy D would definitely get a call.

You'd have to think so... there is no way OKC could get lucky and get two players like Durant and Westbrook through the draft again. Credit to them for the first time.

And we know your play. We know your game. You've skirted the system multiple times. What is it, 3 or 4 different log-ons/emails now? You are on notice. One step, one breath out of line. And we'll do it all over again.

Apologies folks. That ish got weird for a short bit. Now back to your regularly scheduled programming. :)

So...about those young coaches vs Tom Crean....

You are just jealous cause I don't talk dirty to you anymore big fella.

So, I was interested in slow basketball v. fast basketball and compared the tempos on Ken Pom.

In the top-50 teams in tempo, there is 1 team in KP's top-25, UNC at 39th fastest. And they can't even beat a team who ran out of players a month ago and is now just picking people from the crowd (@UNC too, so not even a friendly crowd member). If you expand it to KP Top-50, there are 2. FSU at 30th.

In the bottom-50 teams in tempo, there are two top-25s, Texas, 315th and Virginia, 351st. There are 7 Top-50s, I'm not listing 5 more teams, I have work to do.

Come Tourney time, I'll be interested in comparing how quickly the teams who make it are playing but at the moment, it looks like slow ball is king. Though, I'll admit there are statistical aberrations in favor of this result. Namely, teams with bad defenses play faster. Case in point is the fastest team in the country, The Citadel who have almost the worst defense in the country. They average nearly 5 possessions above the number 2 because the other team just scores without resistance.

Come tourney time every one slows down. Throughout the year teams will play as fast as they can.. and then slow it down in tourney time. It is weird. Same way in the NBA. Pace is much slower. Makes you have very little margin for error.

Im a firm believer in consistant conference success being the best indicator for future success. Bryce Drew is the guy I want at IU if Stevens is off the table. His career is off to a great start and he is in the same conference where Stevens made his name.

What do you guys think? Is there another guy you have tabbed as the "next" guy for IU?

Wow, never dreamed of the guy next door to me so to speak!
