2017 IUBB recruiting

Recommended Posts

Waters and Wilkes would be great if we can land them. A Waters commit now would be nice sooner rather than later.

Would just need another big man and could afford a 4 star guy who would need a year.

I don't see Waters committing without a visit but could see him committing shortly after a visit. From what I've seen and heard of Waters is he's a tremendous young man. I feel like him and his family are doing their homework but would commit if they felt absolutely sure.

I do think we get one if Wilkes or Smith. Wilkes teamed with an improved OG on the wing would be lights out. If JBJ stayed and bought into defense while being a good offensive teammate that could be a special team.

In the finale of the Adidas event, neither Mo Bamba nor Nick Weatherspoon played for Team Rose in its 3rd place win over Team Africa.  In the championship game Team Harden (loaded with talent as HoosierAloha noted) beat Team Canada 123 - 96.  Hamidou Diallo with 12 pts. on 5 of 8 FG's; no 3's; 2 of 3 FT's; 3 reb; 2 asst; 5 TO's; 1stl; no blk in 19 min.  Trevon Duval with 7 pts. on 2 of 7 FG's; 0 for 1 on 3's; 3 of 4 FT's; 3 reb; 2 asst; 1 TO; 1 stl; no blk in 21 min.  Team Harden had 7 players in double figures!

So just an update as some dominoes have started to fall...

All this stuff is always related. Nova was in the drivers seat for Jermaine Samuels while IU was closely behind. Duke waited till Coach K got back from Rio and offered Alex O'Connell whose Dad played at Duke. To put the heat on him, they offered Samuels (also knowing he was going into a Nova visit- 8/24- where a commit was possible). O'Connell pops for Duke on 8/26, Samuels no longer needed, pops for Nova 8/27.

So what does that mean for IU? Well, Justin Smith has three OV's scheduled. IU (9/10), Nova (9/17), and Stanford (9/30). People in my neck of the woods doubt he makes that Nova visit now. It's possible he converts a Xavier unofficial (9/3) to an official but that is speculative. As it stands now, it looks like IU vs. Stanford for Smith...

Things remain hot with Wilkes and IU, not too much to add there other than he will take the visit to UCONN. I don't expect that to amount to much.

Jordan Tucker's recruitment got a bit more complicated last week with the move to Wheeler HS in GA. Family relocated due Dad's job, but Wheeler has 4* PG Darius Perry- a UL commit. Word is UL is in there like swimwear(did some work in July also) and may now get an OV. We'll have to see how that plays out, but been told they may turn into a legit threat for Tucker.

You da man pap!

Tucker for me if I'm picking. Smith more likely.

Possible that smith commits on his visit next weekend? Had heard IU and Villanova were the top two for both Smith and Samuels. Would guess Villanova is unlikely now that Samuels has committed. Stanford a serious threat?

Nova is out from what I hear. Stanford I think is a somewhat serious threat, the family and Justin value the education. But, to my knowledge he hasn't visited Stanford and he's been to Bloomington 3 or 4 times that I can remember. Could they be blown away by what Stanford offers on that visit? Sure. That visit is 9/30. Does he make it past the IU visit on 9/10? I'm not sure.
