Student attendance

[Martin @ #116] And don't even get me started on our total lack of organized chants, songs, or literally anything to increase student pride. A member of Timbers Army would never miss a game they had tickets to because they know how important their individual voice is due to incredible organization. Maybe if the student ticket organizers could do literally anything to organize the student section, more people would show up to participate.

Yesterday I was in Mackey Arena for the PUke vs Iowa women's game. The PUke band is located behind one of the baskets and they literally never shut up except between quarters and halftime. They were organized and yelling something every second and they were loud. This was for a women's game and the arena around 50% full. It was impressive.

And for those who are concerned, I was careful to be sure that all of my inoculations were up to date before going to the game and I underwent a HazMat decontamination after leaving Mackey.

To be fair, they may not have known they were at the women's game.

I'm serious not to get me started. It infuriates me how disorganized we are. We don't even have crib sheets for crying out loud. I tried to get involved when I was in school and just couldn't get traction.

I know chanting and songs and flags and everything already have a good foundation in soccer, so my constant references to the Timbers aren't an exact comparison, but they truly are the best example. They have great chants, take the time to teach you beforehand, and are ridiculously organized. They make 22,000 people speak with one voice and people of all ages wait years (and pay to wait) for a chance to be a part of it. I just don't see any reason we can't make the Hall like this.

Maybe if we can string together a few good season...

I knew the kid who was head of the Paint Crew in the mid 2000's. That was like a full time job. I think he even stayed on a year or two after graduation.

I know the guy who ran the paint crew Twitter account in 13-14 and he had some sweet stories about the things they do with the players like after practice and events that got people excited. Not sure what his official rank was in the crew but he knew the players on a personal level from being around them so much. He was always doing stuff for the paint crew.

Actually we have done the crib sheet thing, but didn't that end up with students yelling at a Purdue player's parents about his sister with a disability? Why in the hell would you put that on there?

I get annoyed with the complete lack of creativity. Yelling YOU SUCK and BS and A-HOLE over and over is too stupid for words. A little well placed sarcasm and some actual (fun, not vindictive) research into the players would be nice. But, it's too unorganized, so...

There are crib sheets from time to time. Nothing every game. The "player's family" was a whole lot of nothing.

Issue with the Crimson Guard/SAB is that they are controlled by the athletic department, which means they can't partake in anything slightly considered slightly edgy. For example, if you've noticed a change in the Crimson Guard twitter account it's now controlled by the marketing department and not a student. That being said, SAB/CG work their butts off and put in a lot of hours. It's hard to organize that many people when they are spread out in three different locations (balcony, GA, behind the basket), but it should still be better.

Maryland game last year was good, and there were a few others, but the atmosphere hasn't been consistently great since 12-13. 11-12 was better than that though. Winning and playing good teams cures all, so we'll see.

And in fairness to the PUke section at Sunday's game, I never heard anything that was remotely offensive or over the top but they were absolutely non-stop in their support of the Toiletmakers.

I am signed up but I am only the 64th person to sign up... if they want some organization they better get a lot more signups!

Seems very basic with the list of Chants... but hopefully it can expand and be a good tool for the Crimson Guard to begin to get some organization at the games.

Agreed. I was 62. I didn't 'sign in' but I found it very menial. It has a lot of potential if marketed appropriately.

I'm curious to hear how well it works. I always got really bad reception/internet at the Hall.
