coonhounds Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 We have also shown over the last 7 years we can struggle against a team that plays slow. We're bad in the halfcourt and do little to nothing to speed a team up.we have also shown that we are not even close to the same team outside of assembly hall. Nobody knows what iu team will show up Alford Bailey 1 Quote
MartintheMopMan Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 We have also shown over the last 7 years we can struggle against a team that plays slow. We're bad in the halfcourt and do little to nothing to speed a team up. You aren't wrong, but Notre Dame is different enough to make me wonder. We have had tons of trouble against slow defensive teams, ones who extend our shot clock use. The offense we run is all about getting the first look because no one is going to be in position for the second. So, when Wisconsin makes us play at their speed on offense we struggle. Notre Dame has a worse defense than we do. They limit possessions by waiting for the absolute best shot which is frequently when the shot clock is almost running out. They do nothing to affect an opponent's speed, so it shouldn't get to us. I think our defense will struggle with their offense but theirs will with ours too. And our style of offense is such a mismatch it may even speed us up. They guard the perimeter so poorly that open threes will be setup in the first few seconds of the clock. That's why they're vulnerable to our rhythm more than other slow teams. They'll be running up and down the court more than they are used to. We need to play physical this game too because they won't. They have a pathological fear of fouling and are so shallow that they can't sub in just because there was a lot of contact on a drive and they wanted to breathe for a few. This matchup just has so many ways to exploit them, honestly even to the point where we could embarrass them. But, since I've never seen a comprehensive game plan to utilize these kinds of things, I know I'll just be yelling advice through the tv all game. Str8Hoosiers 1 Quote

yogisballin Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 I hope Crean stays with same lineup of RoJo, Yogi, JBJ, Troy and TB. He has shown to shy away from that lineup against better competition. Quote

I know we'd all love to have a better defense but having an amazing offense just makes it so much more entertaining. The Purdue/Butler game will be fun to watch only because it'll probably be close all the way through but the IU/Notre Dame game is going to be the most entertaining game of the day. Quote

But it's still early in the season and we have a lot of time to fix the D. But I want to KILL Purdue once we meet them this year. mdn82 1 Quote

Exactly, you know it sticks in their craw that despite being undefeated and ranked in the top 10, more people will still be watching our game than theirs. Padoo just doesn't move the needle in terms of viewership. They'll never be a sexy draw, ever. Honestly, that's a big reason we should get out of this tournament. Purdue, as well as BU and ND, just are not major draws. Quote
rebelhoosier848891 Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 Now that the games have been played and the dust has settled---I find it amusing that after all the talk of little brother Purdue--they still haven't won a game in the Crossroads Classic. And---how did the ND game work out for you after your comments--Coach Brey! Way to go Butler and IU! HoosierAlex, HoosierAloha, Class of '66 Old Fart and 1 other 4 Quote
