Magnanimous Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 Buy or Sell: This team is better built for the NCAAT than the 2012-13 squad. rodmilbourn 1 Quote

djsalway Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 There is much more evaluation needed.Agree. Way too early in the year and we haven't seen enough of everyone not have we played a really tough opponent to gauge where we are. Should be closer to an answer in a week. Quote
Seeking6 Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 Can't evaluate yet. I'll know more after the Duke game....plus NCAAT is all about match ups and draw. Our team got a bad one in 2013. Hopefully our path might be a little more friendly this year with Regionals (most likely for us) are in Chicago or Louisville. Quote
Popular Post hoosierpap Posted November 20, 2015 Popular Post Posted November 20, 2015 I think the point is that it's sorta an unknown. I'm buying. Senior led PG vs. Freshmen led PG Defenserocks28, thebigweave, Naturalhoosier and 8 others 11 Quote
Hurryin' Hoosiers Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 We had a better 1-2 punch in the frontcourt with Zeller/Watford than we do now I think, especially offensively. Depth overall is probably better now but individually no one can match Zeller or Oladipo. I think we might struggle too much against bigger teams like Purdue to be a big threat this year. For now, I'd give an edge to 12-13. WayneFleekHoosier 1 Quote

The leadership and direction Yogi brings that he didn't have then will be huge at the point. And, I think TB's style of post-play is better suited to our team than Zeller's. Zeller was an amazing basketball player, but I think TB is a better post-player. At the moment, I haven't seen any other teams play that I think can shut us down as hard as Syracuse did. It's going to be a heck of a year. Have tickets for Houston gone on sale yet? Quote

I think we might struggle too much against bigger teams like Purdue to be a big threat this year. Purdue plays big, but they're slower and less athletic for the most part. We'll know after this week though (hopefully). Vandy plays huge. If Jones and Kornet can't shut us down, Hammons and Haas won't either. Quote

MartintheMopMan Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 I've seen this thrown around a lot after three games against nothing competition. I think people are forgetting how good freshman Zeller was. Well, I can only evaluate TB three games in. I can compare him to Zeller against his first three opponents, but I mean, we can only work with what we've got. And like I said, I think Zeller was a better all-around basketball player, but he didn't play the traditional post in the same way TB does. We don't need all the extra benefits Cody provided this year, we need a solid traditional post. At the moment, they are not comparable in terms of overall impact on the team or on an individual level, I am evaluating their fit as pieces in the team. 3 v. 3 stat lines. Alford Bailey Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 Sell, as of right now. Zeller and Co. were better on D. This team is gonna rely to much on the 3. That will get you in trouble in a hurry in the tourney. Quote

Holding Creighton to 65 is more impressive than holding Evansville to 73. thebigweave and lillurk 2 Quote

WayneFleekHoosier Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 Very similar. Both lack depth. Sr. Yogi >>>>Fr. Yogi JB >>> Hulls Vic > Troy Watford >>>> Max Zeller >> TB Rob = Sheehey OG = Hanner Hartman >>> Ethrington Elston >> Morgan Ziesloft = Abell Hollowell = Priller LOL. No >>> My math puts 2013 as a +2 ranking. Very similar. Bobman1 1 Quote
MartintheMopMan Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 HUH? ... I don't know that I understand the confusion. We're comparing the 2012-13 team to this team. You're saying the 2012-13 team was better on defense. Though, I could have just compared our current adjusted defense to the previous team's (hint, we're better this year), I thought a more fair comparison was 2012-13 at this point in their season compared to this point in the current season. The first three games played in 2012-13 were the three I listed. The best opponent in that grouping was Evansville (120th). Evansville scored 73 points. The best opponent we've played so far is Creighton (83rd). Creighton scored 65 points. I believe this scoring difference is reflective of the current team's defense. I think that's as simple as I can make it. Let me know if you need it broken down some more. protectthishouse, thebigweave and IU Hambone 3 Quote

WayneFleekHoosier Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 Zeisloft is better than Abelltough call. Worse on D. Better shooter. Less versatility. More beneficial to the "team"??? Probably, could close overall. Quote
Stuhoo Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 Zeisloft is WAAAAY better than Abell Hartman is WAAAAAY, WAAAAAY better than Etherington. Senior Yogi is WAAAY, WAAAAY, WAAAAY better than Freshman Yogi. And CWat is quite a bit better than Max. Quote
mdn82 Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 This team has so many things I like more than 2012-13 but the same could be said vice versa. You can't replace Vic's Defense (due to HoosierTrav) that year. That D was the best I saw since DJ White where we had a shutdown defender. On the flip side as much as I love Cody and he does so many things better than TB he had a tendency to play small. TB is a dog. I love that. I love our potential. thebigweave, Class of '66 Old Fart, MartintheMopMan and 3 others 6 Quote
mdn82 Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 I should add my number 1 concern for this team is Thomas Bryant wearing down by March due to Crean's practices. MartintheMopMan, Class of '66 Old Fart and Defenserocks28 3 Quote
