30 second shot clock

Recommended Posts

why shouldn't the 24 second shot be at the college level in the US? It is at 24 seconds everywhere else.

The skill level isn't strong enough to handle a shot clock that short. Even the NBA teams struggle to get good shots at 24 seconds. I like the 24 second clock for the NBA because it forces action and the players can generally handle it.

30 is a great middle point. Increase tempo, but keep the "feel" of the college game.

Because college basketball is and should be about the game of basketball, the strategy of good offensive sets vs solid defense in order to try and get the best shot possible before giving the ball to the other team.  The shot clocks purpose is to prevent a "prevent" style of offense which is good and honestly, I'm ok with 30 seconds since that almost "guarantees" 1 posession per minute for each team and seems more even, but anything less and then you're approaching the awfulness of "everywhere else", including the NBA.  College basketball is the most fun basketball to watch out there.

Big fan of the more methodical college style. I was actually one of very few that was fine with the 35 second clock. For me, it was fun to watch a 55-53 game where every possession was do-or-die.

I appreciate the NBA game because it's the best players in the world in pretty much non-stop action for 48 minutes.

I enjoy both for different reasons and am happy that college went to 30 instead of 24, because even though I liked 35, knew it was going to change most likely.

NBA is by far the best basketball in the world. Not only because it has the best players but because the best minds in the game are coaching. Everywhere else in the world does it because it helps create more all around players offensively. CBB will get to 24 seconds. And the NCAA NEEDS to stop fighting with the NBA instead of against because they're only hurting themselves. CBB has been years behind for awhile now and is just starting to move in the right direction. There is ZERO reason to be so much different than the rest of the world. The reason I can come up with is that American players can't play with a 24 second shot clock like foreign players... although American players do amazing in FIBA play before getting to college.

European basketball uses the 24 second shot clock and European basketball is all about the game of basketball, good offensive sets and solid defense. That is all possible with a 24 second shot clock. The shot clock has nothing to do with the decline in those three things

College kids handle it pretty well in Canada and Europe and where ever else. We saw that first hand last year before the season started. When Yogi and Sheehey played for team USA they played with a 24 second shot clock and did fine. Kids that play for the US in the U18 etc do great with it. I see no reason they can't do that in college.

THANK YOU!!!! I don't know why people think US kids can't handle it. The Canadian teams we played last year use it as well.
