AZ Hoosier

Blackmon Jr returning to IU

Recommended Posts

One of the things I loved the most from the press conference was they said that once JBJ had received the feedback and critique from NBA scouts/execs/etc he immediately went to the gym that night to keep working. He is a hard worker and will definitely be improved going into next year. All IU fans(myself included) had huge expectations of him coming in and I think the majority of us were a little disappointed, but when you look back at what he did scoring wise for a freshman, he had a good season. Next year should be great though

Do we really expect him to get better at defense? Who is he going to learn it from?

For one thing, he could just start putting in more effort. For that matter, so could most of the guys. Effort can take a player a long way. I just didn't see that happening this past year.

I have said this a couple of times. He really is just an average athlete at this level. You can get better defensively, but he definitely has a ceiling there, and it isn't going to be overly high. I know some want to try and say ability doesn't have anything to do with defense, this simply isn't true. Some think he is going to have some huge jump defensively, I don't see it. I will say he has good length, which will help, but still

I don't see him having a huge jump defensively. He has never been a known defender and I don't think that will ever be his game at all. He was recruited at a high level for his scoring ability and even the NBA execs and gms that gave feedback to him all talked about his shooting and scoring ability. He will play in the league because of that. I think if he can be an average defender, that will be enough if we are speaking honestly

Why would you say that? He is fast, he has a quick first step and decent lateral motion. The only ceiling holding him down is his size (height and wingspan). Lots of excellent defenders don't have those things.

I have seen many college basketball players with less athleticism play much better defense. Luckily he has a chance to improve on that.

I didn't quote the right one there. Simply saying he could be a good defender given his athleticism. I've seen most of college basketball defend at least as well with the same or less talent.

Because he is an average athlete. And that is definitely going to hold down his ceiling. Also, who is an excellent defender that is an average athlete and probably a bit undersized for his position? I think he has great potential offensively, overall I don't see where these comments are coming from and definitely don't see how people think he'll make some kind of leap defensively

im not sure he is undersized for his position. He is a shooting guard. As far as shooting guards that can hold their own or better defensively given athleticism, I'll give you remy able. There are countless other players that are not "as talented" but play better defense. The reason I mention remy is that he was on our team.
