2015 #IUBB Offseason Thread

I didn't know where to put this, but thought it was funny. An Arizona St fan asked Tracy Smith (former IU Baseball coach, current ASU coach) if he coached football by chance last night.

Coach Tom Crean and I won a 6th grade ftball championship back in Bloomington coaching our sons' team. #undefeated! https://twitter.com/clintonmurphy2/status/648027953436069888

Couple of Crean quotes on Blackmon.

“He’s got an awareness, more and more, defensively right now,” Crean said of Blackmon. “It’s been in shorter pockets of time. It hasn’t been over game-to-game or day-to-day yet, but I’m hopeful that he understands that’s going to have a lot to do with his playing time this year.”

“His shot has been, I’d say not normal James Blackmon shooting at this point,” Crean said, “and I think that’s a product of him being out for as long as he was, but I don’t have any concerns about that.”

Not the biggest JB endorsements here.

I am rooting for JB to excel. We need him!!!

I wish he had just lied to us. This seriously concerns me.

I don't know what was bad about what he said about Jimbo..? I watched the full video and that didn't concern me nearly as much as him saying that Troy still isn't in the gym putting in extra work as often as some of the others.

the shooting comment is concerning, as is the defensive uncertainty. Maybe it's motivational fodder or injury setbacks. Either way not a glowing endorsement.

He could have said JB is about to be beastly. NCAA better watch out because JB is about to put on a show.

See what I mean?

The biggest concern is that after a surgery a worry is he won't be able to shoot as well because of a change in mechanism. Crean noted his shooting has changed for the worse after the surgery. He likely will get better but it might be permanent. I see this stuff at work all the time.

I just took it differently. It sounded to me like he needed to shake off some rust after being out of action for a little bit, not like he had the yips or something. Crean saying that he's about to take over the NCAA would've been way worse than telling the truth like he did, in my opinion.

i understand your point. Agree. Just saying its a tad bit worrisome, especially since I know how Crean operates with the media.

JB's shooting is 90% of his game right now, so if he loses that he is in trouble. I honestly don't expect he will. It's like riding a bike, for shooters that is.

The preseason "warnings" in the past from Crean have been scary accurate. Just needs to learn how to fix these problems.

The injury adds an element, so it's likely just "rust" as you say.

Yeah the only reason that statement doesn't worry me right now is the injury. If he had just randomly said JB has lost the shooting touch I'd probably poo my pants.

Hope Troy hasn't started counting his NBA contract $$$

So, it got covered a little. But, my concern is that Crean definitely speaks coach speak. So, when he says JBJ is having a little trouble, I read it as JBJ having a good deal of trouble. Further, like I said, I see this stuff all  the time, something really basic with a high success rate messing up mechanics just a little bit, but it's enough. I really am pulling for JBJ to get through it, but it makes me nervous to see him having this trouble. Hopefully he gets over it, we are in trouble if he doesn't.

If that's what he's doing then he better adjust it for a European or NBDL contract.

You guys realize he plays like... for the team you support right?

JBJs current issues all come from his surgery. Crean said his shooting isn't like usually and he is having some trouble getting back to play, its because of his legs/knee. Hard to shoot with dead legs. He will be back before too long.

And just cause we support the team doesn't mean we have to agree with what every player decides to do/not do. I think Troy already has his mind made up on the NBA after this year. I hope that means that he will put in the work to make it, but sounds like he still struggles to be a gym rat. The teams success depended on him a lot last year. When he was on, so was the team. Unfortunately he disappeared a lot, which lead to the team looking the same.
