Potential fallout from coaching change

Recommended Posts

We already have our coach for the year. Even if Crean wanted to leave, Glass will beg him to stay. Besides his coaching mishaps, I like CTC. But Glass can take the next bus out of town. Hes almost......."almost", as bad as Morgan Burke at PU. Thats not good.

Glass is in over his head just like someone else which has me concerned about anyone wanting to let him be their boss. That's why I said get rid of him before going after your coach. Michigan's AD getting into a tweeting war was bad; just like Glass discussing x and o's regarding Indiana as well as roster management. It's not his place to make excuses for his bad decisions regarding contract extensions, yet he will go all out placating just this. He must go to; clean house and start fresh.

I bet Crean gets a raise just so we can retain him. You have to do what you have to do keep powerhouses like Alabama, DePaul and Seton Hall from snagging your coach.

I t appeared few coaches had the guts to take a major, major hit to their career winning percentage. Crean had a top 10 team returning at Marquette and he was still man enough to come here and put out this dumpster fire. Those other coaches were chicken. Now that the ship is righted and they'll be taking over a tournament team, suddenly they are interested. Losers!

Name the better coaches who weren't afraid of the challenge and wanted to come?

Who was great and not full of baggage that was clamoring to come that we turned down for Crean?

I'd check your facts a little bit, Marquette started 08-09 season as the 16th ranked team in the ap poll, perhaps most telling they started the 09-10 season with the exact same number of votes in the ap poll as Iu....zero.

I'd say crean saw it coming and got outta town while the gettin was good

HoosierHoops1, Rick Pitino wanted the job both times it was open.   Absolute fact.   Was told both times the university feared hiring another coach with his persona who could be bigger than the program.   I'm new here and not trying to START a dumpster fire, but you might want to do some checking before you post comments like that.

That's what I figured. If anyone watched the presser with Marshall talking about their match up he didn't have much to say about IU. All he mentioned that he watched yogi miss a 3 pointer to beat Maryland and that's all he's seen of us. Didn't really talk about the program at all.

Marshall is a good coach but fails horribly as a person. He acts like everyone is out to disrespect him. The guy does have some chippy little man syndrome. I think that is why he has never left mid major coaching. He can publicly come across abrasive etc.

Semantics. They were good and a conference, national threat.

You're only telling half the story. Nick Williams and Tyshawn Taylor opted out of verbals, so they would have been sophomores added to the team that started out unranked.  And are you really going to try to tell me that unranked and 34th or so is equivalent to Indiana in the 200's?

the .715 win % a, the 14/17 1 or 2 place finishes in conference, the undefeated season, the tourney run. The defense. The x and o's in game situations. The taking average players (van fleet & baker) and making them national figures.

I know you cant judge by one game but I bet this conversation looks a lot different Friday evening win or lose.

Wichita St could've very easily won out last year if not for the misfortune of meeting a streaking Ky team.

And they do this with hard nosed fundamental basketball, not by overpowering with superior athletes.Marshall's not my first pick but I wouldn't be upset at all if he came here.

Solid coaching is solid coaching regardless at what level or league and this guy can flat out do it.

The ap poll I saw they received zero votes...nick williams doesn't make that much of a diff

the university is full of garbage. There were a lot of coaches that were interested including Pitino, Izzo, Calipari.. The list goes on. IU chose Crean for a lot of reasons and Crean chose IU for a lot of reasons. There is no certainty that the others would have commited but they were all interested. The administration was trying to avoid certain things at all costs and while they avoided certain things, they got them themselves an average coach.

It is so wrong that a few people say Crean was the only one man enough or best we could get then. We thought we had an up an comer with fire and passion that would unite the fanbase and alumni and focus on doing right etc. we got some of those things but not the whole package

2 guys that avg 9 and 4 as freshmn wouldn't have helped an "unranked" team as sophomores?

Not only unranked, but receiving zero votes, so not on the radar.

Sure, they'd help. But do they completely change fortunes?

I don't count "Let's see how much they'll kiss my ass" as interested.

But, believe it or not, wouldn't be the first time I haven't been completely right.

i don't know what you mean. "See how much they'll kiss my ass" IU wanted a young, up and coming coach that had a squeaky clean track record, that was going to work to fix the academic problems, PR issues, unite the fanbase, take a lower salary and not threaten the authority of the administration and still win. That eliminated a lot of coaches. Many of the coaches that are top tier were all about winning and the other things second. IU had a PR problem that Crean seemed primed to fix. That was número uno

I think it was really easy for coaches like Pitino, Izzo, and Calapari to say that they were interested in the job afterwards. Those guys consistently turned down NBA jobs at the same time so I doubt they were THAT interested in the IU job. Plus, even though those guys are great at what they do…I don't know if I coudve stood having them as a coach. Pitino and Izzo look like lunatics on the sideline and Calapari is a slime ball.

Idk how many coaches were lining up for the job when Crean got the job. Crean wasn't even IU's first choice. Tony Bennett (IU's top choice) and Sean Miller(second choice) turned down the job. If they turned down the job I highly doubt Pitino, Izzo, and Calipari were dying to coach the team.

I live in the KC area. Marshall has played the local media about feeling personally disrespected by Kansas and Bill Self. He really wants Kansas to schedule WSU. Self believes KU has nothing to gain by scheduling WSU now or in the near future. Marshall responds by getting chippy coming across like an angry fool. The guy is a good coach but carries some quirky bad baggage. He truly believes he has payed his coaching dues and is deserving of a blue blood coaching job. His " Play Angry " for WSU is his personal calling card. Many WSU fans believe IU is nothing more than a speed bump to a matchup with Kansas. I believe we can beat WSU and prefer we have nothing to do with Marshall becoming IU's next head coach.

I'm glad that he at least is passionate about having higher competition to compete against though, that's not all such a bad thing.  Shows his competitiveness.
