"This morning, I received an email from a woman who long ago was hospitalized for multiple suicide attempts. She rightfully objected to comments that I made in an interview with the Bloomington Herald-Times. Regrettably, I did say those things and was quoted accurately. The metaphor I used was insensitive, distasteful, and hurtful. Suicide and depression should never be referenced in such fashion. I was wrong to do so. I have apologized directly to the woman who wrote. I am now also publicly apologizing for my inappropriate remarks."

In fairness, who would expect to be offended by IU's AD? I wouldn't say "Hey, look out for Fred Glass interviews because he says some pretty brutal stuff to the press." Comedians or movies and forums like that? Totally agree. But Glass was REALLY out of line with that metaphor and the "stage" he was on.

 

I'm saying if people can't read 'slash your wrist' and not be offended where are we as a society?  If you can't take that stay in your house and read only things that are known not to contain those metaphors.  It's not just about this situation but just the overall sensitivity of people.

Some get offended by very little and some feel there should never be a filter. I'm of the mind set to let people do their thing and just live. I don't really fret over things that won't change. Agreed, I'm sure Fred didn't intend to offend anyone and could have handled it better.  The apology was made and everyone should move on.

How often is Kansas going to a bowl? Same as UNC? Again UK blows at football. Don't see what is so hard. UK is the only "basketball" school that disregards football. Come on dude, know what you're talking about.

True but 4 of those have been over last 12 years. I think most on here would agree we would be happy if IU was in the same boat right now. All I have said is the only basketball program to truly ignore their football program is UK. Football just brings in more revenue than basketball due to tv and revenue sharing as well as the ability to pack more people in the stadium for the 7 home games per season.

True. The profit in 2010 (most recent I could find) had IU as the 6th most profitable basketball team with a $14 million profit. Still not as much as the football team. Like Natty said earlier. We get $8 million for just being in the B1G football. The revenue split for tv and bowl games is more than $14 million easy. Plus you only have 5 road games. It's nuts how much money is made in football.

Further, Assuming he is doing that to keep some order and to possibly keep recruiting efforts preserved for a bit I wonder if there might be some way to send a don't worry message.

Taking Glass comments and assuming that he truly thinks TC has done a great job is naturally maddening for fans. So assuming the AD is a fool and not aware of fan frustration a logical next step is to boycot, boo or act in such a way as to send a clearer message. Note I am not advocating that but understand how frustrated fans get there.

So now, again assuming things are happening behind the scenes it might be good for the AD to somehow alert some fans to be patient the message has been heard. Recently there was a post describing how at times IU would contact the message boards and ask to have something taken down. So, they clearly have a contact method with the boards - just wondering if it might be wise to alert a few discreet mods on the boards to pass a long such a message.

IU certainly moderates these boards. 41 gets calls about things on the boards. It's more a matter of "this shouldn't be out there" type of stuff bc it doesn't represent the university well. Take that as you will, but if you need further example/explanation do it via PM
