Potential coaching change suggestions

Since we are playing the "name game", JW is the name I think of as well. The CAA is not a major conference that the Big East was, he gets paid less than CTC make now, and Nova facilities are sorely lacking.http://www.vuhoops.com/villanova-basketball/2014/1/29/5354986/villanova-has-facilities-issues-that-will-compound-over-time
Brownell would be good as well. Stevens is the slightest of chances.
The other names make me laugh as there is no chance, especially Billy D. Are you kidding me? He makes over 4 mil py (1 mil more tgan CTC), is practically #2 in the SEC without trying hard, has facilities galore, his school makes booku cash from the SEC/ESPN TV deal, nice weather, and doesn't have to worry about overly fickle basketball fans harshing his gig because they only do that with UF fb coaches. Sounds like a miserable job to me! dws

Your sentence about not having fickle basketball fans is exactly why he would leave. They just don't care. Could you imagine being a back to back NC coach and saying that. He would be a God here, and after having all the money you can spend; motivations come in strange areas. He would be a viable candidate.

I might have posted this earlier, but the other thing about Donovan is that, he's not there yet, but he's getting close to the age where he has to decide if he's a Florida lifer or not. We know he's flirted with UK in the past and he even took the Orlando Magic job for a brief period, so the idea of leaving Florida isn't off the table for him.

I am not sure fischer was the caliber player that just having him gets us in the big title talk. I think hanner this year will b better than Fisher would have been for us this year. Imo

Sorry but no to the Hanner as junior to fisher as soph comparison.

Fisher was better as a freshman than Perea most likely will be as a senior if hes still here.

On a serious note I would take
1. Stevens
2. Marshall
3. Bennett
4. Hoiberg
5. Shaka

Hoiberg at 2 for me. If I couldn't get 1 or 2 it's no change for me.

Shoot, I would even look at a guy like LA Tech's Michael White. He's young, won his conference three years in a row (and only been a HC for 4) and has a solid pedigree and comes from a family that understands college athletics (father is the AD at Duke). We will probably go out and hire like Steve Lavin or Jamie Dixon. Let's hope we have somebody that understands Indiana basketball on the search committee when that time comes...if it comes...

I guess to somewhat redact my own thread and redirect it: What IU Alums (or coaches with IU ties) are out there? Again, whenever the next coach takes the reigns I think it might be someone from the program. I'm interested in discussing who's out there, what they've done, and what they are postured to do. Unfortunately, the Army has kept me too busy to keep an eye on all of this, but might as well celebrate the new year.

Kieth Smart coached in the NBA for Cleveland prior to Le Bron, Golden State, and Sacremento. His records were not good, but to understand why, you have to know the context.
Kieth is a transitional coach in the NBA, meant to reign in players when there is a big change coming. He is hired to try to change the culture of a team into a team attitude. Dealing with pros is difficult, but if you look at these teams post-Smart they generally perform well a year or two out.
I believe that he would be excellent here because he is knowledgable, can deal with personalities, knows how to win, and understands IU. His wife is from Bloomington, so he visits frequently.
Whether or not he would be willing to coach at IU, unknown, but he would be a great catch. He could also assemble a fantastic staff to help the cause.
