96% graduation rate. In an age where coaches are weighed and measured more by recruiting classes than retention and graduation, you really get a sense just how far down the path that success is measured more by dollars than an education. Of course, that was well before the whole fake classes thing that Roy "had no clue about". 2 men. Same number of titles at UNC. One made a huge impact and the other is trying to make excuses.

Trying to think which Indiana kids he got besides Montross? Drawing a blank. Thinking Williams landed Sean May.

Indiana Mr. Basketball Dave Colescott out of Marion, 1975 I think, was one of his first. Montoss and May played for Dean and both won champioinships. Tyler Zeller won one for Williams. RIP Coach Smith. On a side note, I always loved getting to play against him when Knight coached especially come tournament time. Knight outcoached him everytime simiar to the way Wisconsin fans view Crean vs Ryan. Knight beat arguably Dean's best teams ever with Jordan's #1 ranked team all year long. Those days were the best.

I was thinking Jon Holmes out of Bloomington South also but it looks like he was after the Smith era. I guess Montross was enough to leave a sour taste in my mouth forever.

May didn't play for Dean Smith. Smith retired in 1997. Matt Doherty recruited Sean May to UNC
