Indiana won't be Indiana until it wants to be Indiana

Okay. "Winning erases the haters." Thanks for that. Really says a lot. If that were true, there wouldn't be such a chicken little attitude here. If you guys haven't noticed, we are in the tournament and gearing up for a run this year and/or next year. Of course, that could be ruined by NBA early entry. Never should have recruited those NBA caliber players. We really need more white 3 stars with Hoosier smarts.

I really just thought that was interesting in reference to what many were discussing regarding whether IU can/will be a dominant program in the future. Didn't think it was going to cause you to interpret it as an excuse. Did not think that was possible but Wayne you can sunshine pump or jump off a cliff with the best of 'em. And I can always tell which you is here, just have to look at the schedule!

furthermore, my response is that Blueblood programs that are having continued success (such as Alabama Football, Kansas ball) don't make the excuses about their past hindering their success. It's when the current regime fails to live up to expectations that quotes like the one you posted are made.

I realize that coaching a Blueblood program is a challenge but it's also a major advantage. I say to those coaches, "seize the day, earn your pay, and provide wins. The last thing Blueblood fans want to hear is excuses"

I wonder how much people factor in creans efforts. I really think crean is giving 210% as the coach of a indiana no matter how bad of a coach I think he is. I don't know of a coach in the country that works harder than Coach Crean or wants it as bad as Coach Crean.

Good point. He may not be (well, he isn't) the best x's and o's guy, but he isn't just screwing around on the court. The guy is legitimately intense. It's always about the program, no matter how much people hate his press conferences, it always comes back to what is best for the program and the school. Can't knock him for that.

no need to make it personal. Just like any fan/fanatic, I am admittedly emotional. I get my hopes up with every season and with every win. I could be converted BACK into a Crean supporter with CHANGES, and better recruiting.

I want to admire and respect the coach of the program I love. My inner fan roots for IU to be winners and respected. Unfortunately, I get let down by Crean more often than the alternative. And he isn't giving me great hope for the future, sadly.

I don't know; I guess I just don't see how there can be such shifts in position when he is the exact same coach whether we win or lose.

And you really aren't excited about the prospects of our freshmen class? I can't imagine that!

I don't think that statement means tradition or past success hinders the current program.

But when fans yearn for the days of yesteryear, it creates unrealistic expectations. IU basketball has been relatively tortoise like in adjusting to a new era of college basketball.

Even I wouldn't knock his effort, I just think he's too limited by his actual ability.

Blackmon big time yes
Johnson big time yes
Holt mildly yes
Hoetzel yes
Priller negative
April negative
And we missed the most glaring need to make us a legitimate tourney contender.

2015 so far is a mild yes.

When you miss on filling your Biggest need, that is a tremendous recruiting blunder.

We still haven't filled that spot a full year later. Add Bryant to this class and I shut my trap about recruiting.

my feelings on Crean haven't changed in 2 years, sadly. I root for the team though. I can be fooled into believing we are better than we are by reading hype from the "sunshine pumpers" then my eyes remind me of the level of team we actually are. Which BTW, is a decent team that can be dangerous. We are a helter skelter Schizophrenic team this year. Leads to ups and downs.

Yeah, I just don't place as much importance in having a big time center. Does it help? Sure. But it obviously didn't mean too much when we had Zeller or Vonleh. It takes a number of things.

I think the level of play we are getting on the perimeter just needs to be countered with someone who is a defensive specialist that doesn't get in the way on offense like Hanner sometimes can.

As far as this year's team, we all knew that going in. It was obvious this team was going to be fun, and frustrating. If we were not in position to make noise in the tourney, I would be on the side of being open to a change after this year. But this team is exactly what I thought. It only takes a good matchup; we might wake up and be in the elite 8.

I don't count Priller or April. Lol. I don't know why everyone freaks out about the oversign. It's pretty obvious.

I agree with this. If a big man just isn't apart of the offense why not find a a space eater than can clog the paint on d and gain a little attention inside to free up shooters and rebound at a high rate. No need for a 5 star offensive horse.

being a BIG center is no easy task. Some Centers are 4 or 5 stars based on Defense alone. Goodluck comes to mind. I am a firm believer we would have been MUCH better this year with GO. Big time defender, shot blocker, shot alterer. Lyles would have pushed us up big time. If we didn't waste the whole recruiting season trying to get GO and then missing, maybe we could have actually landed a serviceable big (one we weren't actually in on). Same can be said for 2015 with Ray Spalding.

jameel mcay would of fit in perfectly. I remember Iu recruiting him in 2012 before he went to marquette and never played a game and then transfer to Iowa st. He had to sit almost 2 years to play division 1 ball.

because the vast percentage of our fanbase is like me in that I go to games and cheer my ass off but I want him out. I would never boo him though, I cheer, I'm a fan

Right. But he made it sound like there are quite a few people booing Crean at the games, which just simply isn't true.

I don't know, I've been to games at Assembly Hall and on the road and NY in particular this year. The boo birds were out in force at the Louisville game with and I heard more comments vs boos at AH. Seriously, the Louisville game was BAD!!! I was in the IU section and by the end you would have thought it was the Louisville section
