There is nothing but lightweight hate for IU and Crean if we go beat Illinois tomorrow and still don't make it in or just barely miss Monday. I feel like we could beat Illinois, beat a solid Maryland squad and then lose the next game and they would find that as another reason not to rank IU. All of us die hards say "we don't care" about a ranking but we aren't going to be nationally relevant unless we get in there and stay in there. The normal fans will be more apt to show up to games, the buzz gets going again in the media, recruits wamt a solid chance at getting a championship.. rankings mean things on a few levels

I think it's harder to get in than stay in. I think we are right there with many teams 15-25. MSU is really the game we shit the bed.

I'd say this forthcoming 4-game stretch is crucial; play well and we'll be respected. @UoI, vMD, @OSU, and @PU could define this season. I truly believe UoI and PU are games we SHOULD win (critical word choice), MD is a toss-up in my mind (Assembly Hall has some magic still), and I doubt our chances @OSU. 

 

Bottom line? Go 2-2 in that stretch or, God Willing, 3-1/4-0 and the national media will take stock.

Seth Davis just tweeted his picks for Top 25 after this week, and he had IU replacing O$U at #22.

Anyone else think we just may crack the top 25 this year, and was anyone expecting it????

With how weak (or parody filled, talked your pick) the NCAA is this year, I'd say we've looked like any number of top-25 teams on a fairly regular basis.

I'm not sure I'd call Illinois a "should win" game considering how we've looked the past few games.  We took a steaming crap in East Lansing and since then even at home we haven't looked particularly good, both OSU and PSU could best be described as "well, a win is a win".

 

Illinois is far from a powerhouse, but lately we haven't even looked that good on our home court.

Somehow we dropped from 44 to 55 at kenpom.com over the weekend while Ohio State is #21. Can't figure that one out at all, but we did pass Illinois, which dropped faster than we did. How Minnesota is ahead of us there I'll never understand. They haven't beaten anyone of substance, they're 0-4 in B1G. (I predicted Minnesota would regret firing Tubby when it happened).

We're 60 in RPI as of today, but it boils down to finishing 11-7 or better in the conference to be sure to be in The Dance. We should be able to do that.

How are you confident enough to say that we should be 11-7 or better in conference? I haven't seen that from this team.

I still think 4-1 in the Big Ten and 14-4 overall gets us ranked in the top 25.

My thing wasn't that should be a stopper. My thing is people seemed to think it was ridiculous we didn't go from unranked to ranked after getting blown out. The complaints about no respect bother me too

I'm sorry but we have WAY bigger probs than worrying with being in the top 25! Hope I'm wrong! Trust me, I really really do. It's been since the 2012-13 season since I can truly say that I'm excited to see the next game. I would absolutely LOVE for that to change!
