Sources tell me his conversations with the refs were this

 

Ref 1:  "Hey, Tom, you actually called a timeout."

Crean:  "Yeah, my assistants made me read the rule book.  Did you know it's legal to use timeouts?"

Ref 1:  "Yes, yes we did Tom."

 

Afterwards

 

Ref 2:  "Should we tell him the timeouts he saved in his first 6 years didn't rollover?"

Ref 1:  "No, I don't have the heart to break that to him.  Let him figure it out on his own."

 

 

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

I just figured it was in his contract....you know......about 10 grand for every time out not used.

All I got say is Troy in the last 2 games played great against good competition. 40+ points and maybe 5 TOs and rebounding great. I give 2 thumbs up to him and everybody else should as well.

Oh believe me were not. We got all the calls in the first half before working the officials came into play. The secoind half just the opposite when the mighty JT2 worked his magic; not only in coaching but working the officials. You could just sense Calhoun having a mighty laugh knowing he owned him and Crean for so many years. The best coach won today sadly and that's the story of Creans tenure at Indiana. He backed into his only conference championship after getting blistered by Ohio State at home while still cutting down the nets in arguably the most embarrassing event ever at Assembly Hall. That and running up and down the concourse after beating Illinois at home and the ever popular trophy case addition of Sweet 16 rings. Doesn't he have an individual conf champ banner next to 1983 which is the fan's banner? I guess you could call it Tom Crean's banner. Unfortunately, his traditions would be laughed upon not only his predessesors but players and fans,alumni alike. Time for new traditions that include accomplishments of worthy note just not early graduations and 4/5 transfers yearly.

You are correct, AIA blew us out. I remember watching that game in my dorm room and feeling...lots of bad feels.

I remember Eggers was fairly high ranked coming outta high school. Didn't do diddly-squat while playing for IU. Then came back and torched our asses...and I kept thinking maybe he took four years of frustration out on Knight! Lol...and nobody questioned RMKs ability to develop talent. He was damn good but he wasn't perfect!

I'm trying really hard to think of any coach I wouldn't trade Crean for. Any in the Big, how about any freaking coach at any power conference including Bruce Weber. How many times did he own Crean? That's a big time loaded question, since I have a lot of doubts anyone wouldn't be better. Mike Davis couldn't recruit to save his job, but I have to say in game he was better than Crean. And you certainly realize how bad that is? Yogi chucking up threes in crunch time is no different than Bracey Wright. Did Davis ever have a lottery player let alone 2 on one team? Crean's so bad the last school he left Indiana for wouldn't even give him a sniff. I might even take the old Delta Eagle Matt Porchop over Crean. He did more with his best and blasted us last year without another lottery pick. Name any coach in D1 power conference and I could make a strong argument if they were at Indiana they would do better than Crean in year 7 at Indiana. Let mcClain coach the rest of the way, or even Yogi.

I just rewatched the game and I feel bad for ripping Crean. Not because he did a good job, but because his daughter was crying at the end of the game. I'm right there with ya kiddo

Don't know that I would trade but he was by far the better coach in the second half.

So... Indiana wins the 1st half by 10 and Georgetown wins the 2nd half by 10 and JT3 somehow proves he's the better coach.

 

Only once did I gripe specifically at a coaching move. The rest was at execution.

We are so close to being really good. All I'm seeing is Crean actually using some timeouts in the first half as soon as he didn't like what he saw.. that kept us on track. Then 2nd half, same ol Crean again. It's not just iu fans. I can't believe how many of my non iu friends text me now.. especially today with "wow Crean is actually using his timeouts".. it's old news but are we just supposed to not post and let this place be a ghost town?

On the other hand I just HATE watching horrible shooting teams just go unconscience on us. Freaking hate it..

Yogi - I love ur clutchness. Even when u go overboard in hero mode. U usually play well in hero mode.

How we don't flash someone to the high post on every possession is beyond me.

Chances are your friends are posting because they are smart ass pricks. The same reason my Uconn fan employee texted me today. Not because they are "noticing anything" but because you mentioned it and they latch on to it bugging the hell out of you

Crean called a timeout after we had lost control and drove straight in to a defensive trap

 

Hanner is useless. Absolutely the worst big man I have seen at IU and I'm including Pritchard

 

Stan is a cancer to this team and I can't wait until he leaves forever

 

Our defense is pathetic

It was his own fault that his daughter was crying. Had he done a better job coaching this team, they would have won and his daughter would have been happy.

This site cracks me up----the Hoosiers win and all is fine.

 

The Hoosiers lose---- and the sky is falling.

 

A lot of basketball to be played this year---and a lot more improvement is needed on defense and rebounding----but we were even with Georgetown at the end of regulation.

 

Our Hoosiers are playing good basketball for large chunks of time-----just need to get it for a full 40.

Late to the party---but Troy continues to improve---had a couple of costly turnovers at the end---but no denying he continues to show improvement.

Yogi was Yogi---team leader when we needed points and showing toughness down the stretch.

 

We will need him in big games on the road in the Big Ten!

JBJ is still a freshman and played like it at times----but overall he did his part-----liked the threes but loved the rebounds---seven I think.

We are who we thought we were inside----lots more work to do.

 

I found myself thinking why not put April in to get a big body on their big guy---but maybe he's not quite ready.

Hanner disappeared at times---6 rebounds and 2 points were just OK.

 

I find myself hoping once again we get a stud big next year!  I still think Hanner and Holt and DD will be solid next year---but a little insurance would sure be nice as we will have strong guard and wing play if everyone returns.

Overall---you have to admit this was a fun and entertaining game to watch.

 

If DSR doesn't go unconscious---we get the win.

 

DSR came in averaging 27% from 3 point range and he shot something like 5 of 7 for over 70% against IU from 3.

 

This always seems to happen with Indiana kids we play against -----and we almost overcame it.
