B1G tournament at MSG

Recommended Posts

Can't wait. I live 4 blocks from MSG. I don't get the hate for this location. It can only help the conference by rotating it around Chicago, Indy, DC, and NYC. The tickets prices they'll be able to charge here will be huge as well.

NYC has a ton of Big10 alumni. Obviously with this announcement coming in the first year of Rutgers' and Maryland's membership there will be naysayers, but the Big10 is no longer merely a Midwest conference, something the traditionalists are going to have to stomach, as NYC, Philadelphia, and DC are now to some extent Big10 cities. Yea for many IU fans in particular, who viewed BTT games as home games, this is kind of a drag as you can't leave work early to catch an afternoon game in Indy, but it's about building the brand name, and you'd have to be living under a rock to be surprised by Delany making moves to increase exposure in the NYC area.

Moves like these are almost procautionary to an extent, as with the CFP coming into being and more realignment likely to come, building brand name and claiming terrotory are crucial. The ACC has already scheduled two ACC tournaments in Brooklyn over the next few years.

I don't mind the rotation expanding to NYC but I absolutely hate the timing of the tournament changing... We are playing with all the mid majors... Big conferences don't play tournaments that week. And that is going to be a long time to be off between games heading into post season

Perfect. I'm staying with you. I'll be bringing two other mid-thirties men, my wife, and two or three children under 5 years old.

I agree about the timing. Who is playing there the next week, Big East? I would hate to play second fiddle to them.

On a positive note. This can't hurt our recruiting of T. Bryant.

I would like to see a six year rotation of Indy, Chicago, DC, Indy, Chicago, NYC...  Keep it based in the midwest but expose it to the East Coast.

you forgot a 7th rotation...why not a year in Honolulu?

I'll get to see the B1G team in a nice tourney on an amazing island in 2015 and then again in a historical hanger in 2016.  Although, an B1G tourney down the street wouldn't be bad.

I was only thinking of my fellow Hoosier in Hawaii... :D

come to think of it...I'm sure there is a nice big following of IU in Moscow...why not have the B1G tournament in Moscow every 8th year?

Thanks for looking out for a fellow Hoosier in Hawaii!

You're getting a little goofy now.  I'm thinking of the BTT on an aircraft carrier in the Pacific!

Delany is a joke. This is a desperation move. Other conferences( ACC, SEC, Big12) have moved far ahead of the B1G with this conference realignment. We got Rutgers! I mean who is left in that area that would be a good pickup for our conference? Nobody! Yea, there is some alums there but really more than Indy or Chicago? Boycott this NYC thing. Don't let them steal your money like that.

The Big 12 is light years behind us.  The conference almost imploded two years ago, and this year pooped the bed with it's results to the football playoff.

I could even make an argument that the Big Ten under Delaney has been a leader in the changing landscape of college athletics.
