I would rather start Holt over Hanner.

thank you!

a few people on other sites and here have told me hes not ready, my answer to that is well is hanner? I mean come on Holt had a better game than Hanner has his entire career at IU.........ya he didnt start his first two years, but we are basically 8 games in and he really hasnt shown anything worth raving about

It was mentioned in another thread that Stanford better get it together.

I totally agree.  I thought he brought the team down a little last night when he tried to create his own offensive threat.  Bottom line is he has no offensive threat.  He has no outside shot (which we know from last year) and the creative slashing that he tries to produce isn't working.

He one of our best defending guards and it would impress the hell out of us fans if he would totally focus on that and stop the other team from scoring.  The other guys have the scoring taken care of.  We need the guy that when he walks on the floor, you know the lockdown D is coming.

Defensive stops are a crucial part of the game too Stan!  Be that guy!

Role players are the only thing that is going to make this team succeed.  Individual play needs to cease and desist (see the last 3 minutes of the game).

Sorry...Great win last night guys.  Great team ball!  Awesome ball movement!  Great shooting!  All that played as a team deserve MVP's.

I still have to watch a replay of the game as I was there so I may not have gotten the best feel for the game. But my impressions:

1) Holt and Hartman are our best front court. They may not be the most talented bigs, but they're definitely who I feel safest with. I said this against UNC Greensboro as well. Holt is so good with positioning and Hartman hustles his butt off.

2) The 2-3 looks like our best bet. It definitely wasn't great but it was certainly a lot better than man. I wouldn't be surprised if he reached out to Boeheim or something and got tips. The zone was light years ahead of where we have been on defense.

3) Depending on what style you like your point to play, Rojo may be a better point than Yogi.

4) Yogi and Troy are so talented, but we all know they can at times have a knack for selfish play. That said, we definitely are at our best when Yogi is out there. I'm not so convinced I feel the same way about Troy. He is out of control, and sure he had a good game making plays but he just plays so out of control. I think he would be better in spurts than as a starter. He's just not there yet.

5) Hanner isn't ready to be the premiere big man. He is inching towards progress, but honestly Holt played better than him. I think this season could take a turn for the worse if coach decides to be overly conservative and give Hanner the nod based solely on age. I won't really weigh in on the Hanner v Holt argument as far as who should start, but I think they should get a pretty 50/50 split of PT. And if the game is on the line at the end, I know I want Holt in there.

I thought Crean coached a pretty good game and had the team prepared.

Pitt isn't a world beater by any means, but... we have played two pretty good teams, and are 2-0 in those games. If you can't get excited about that, you're probably not very fun to be around

One more thought. This team NEEDS to learn to keep their foot on the gas. We could've had a much more impressive margin last night, we blew it against EWU, and UNC Greensboro was trending dangerously.

Its my belief, for a long time, that this is a problem with CTC game management.

Slim. I think his game is best suited for coming off the bench. He can come in and play 5-7 minutes at a time and play really hard. It provides energy and some shooting off the bench.

He fills the same niche Sheehey did before he was a starter. And look what happened to him after he started.

With Sheehey, I don't know if his issues were so much that he started, but it was the changes in the roster.  Sheehey played off of the skill and talent around him.  With that skill and talent around him decreased, it put him in a spot to be someone he wasn't...and that's the main guy on the offensive end.  Sheehey was at his best when the ball wasn't in his hands.  Troy is similar, imo.

I think the issue with Sheehey was that he was great for that burst of high energy coming off the bench, he encouraged everyone around him to play harder because of the energy he brought into the game. He couldn't be that up-tempo all game and he couldn't be a shock to the other guys when he'd been on the court the whole time. He wasn't able to fill the role he was given and he was taken from the role he was really good at. I don't know who I would have started in his place, but I do think we would have been better if he stayed the Sixth Man.
