So who's going to be the new Coach next year?

Recommended Posts

Stevens salary with the Celtics is about $3.6 Million. Crean is currently making about $3.16 Million. It definitely doesn't have to be in the 7 million range for him to come. I think its less about the money and more if he would want to leave the NBA so soon.

Just thinking top coach level with coach k, calapari, self. Gotta pay them right.

Like I said. Brad is not coming and the other two, while strong up and coming, it's a 5 year plan when they step on campus period. Would be interesting to watch though!

Glad you "know" Brad isn't coming. Not what others have heard concerning his interest. But my hat isn't hung on him being the only option. I don't think any coach turns IU around in 1 year unless they keep the guards and add a dominant big man. So I expect a couple year rebuild under the right coach. Basketball isn't like football, land a couple studs and have a balanced roster and we are in the NCAAs

Other coaches who I feel would excel at IU and be better than Crean are Fred Hoiberg, Tim Miles, Tony Bennett, and Shaka Smart.

Another young coach who I see having a high curling is Richard Pitino, who I think is already a better game coach than Crean.

There are plenty of options that are upgrades.

when Crean took over we had walk-ons and low rated 3 star players, and we were the number 1 team in the country in his 5th year. How do you figure a coach who walks in to a team with a couple of Mcdonalds all americans and other highly rated kids with experience would need 5 years.

Again, not to rehash how these things actually work in real life. There would be fallout ( believe it or not I think the boys like Crean). These guys were not recruited for d...Crean doesn't recruit that way. U get a defensive coach in here it would be even uglier and rightfully so....at least until he got a few recruiting years in. And what I think everyone on this thread would have to agree too hence the title is Crean didn't have much to do with the number 1 ranking and more life after Sampson.

Don't kid yourself, the program is not in as bad as shape as it was when Crean got here, a proven coach can turn this around sooner than you think.

I don't understand how anyone can think that it would be another massive build. A good coach that either comes with kids or inspires kids to stay can be huge. We clearly still have recruiting clout.

I feel like if a coaching change happens, it will be a proven up and comer at a mid-major. What about Greg Marshall?

Agreed. All better than Crean and none of them coming to Indiana...look at their history's and scenarios. Best bet from the group is Bennett

I can tell no one is going to convince you, but if it's handled properly then it's nothing like Sampson. Sampson was a messy firing before the season ended marred by scandal where the entire team had to be cleared out while bringing in someone who wasn't an instant all-star coach.

If this is handled properly, it's an end-of-season transition firing where recruits and current team members have an opportunity to know who the new coach will be and maybe some won't transfer if it's a dynamite hire. He comes with some recruits or has enough personal clout to get a few springs.

It's like... the exact opposite.

Florida has handled getting rid of Muschamp nicely. He walks away with 5+ million and understands he just didn't get it done, and he's allowed to coach out his last year. It will make asmoother transition. Lots to learn there imo.

I respect your view. Just trying to shine some light on the scenario that NO one ever thinks about when things are bad and coaches gotta go. So easy to fire someone and it's fixed. That's not life and usually just the first step in long and painful journey that may end up somewhere pretty great.
