No Holt?

So if Crean doesn't have it, what does it take? Everyone has a lot of neat words and phrases but few ever provide any substance to go with the comic quips. I ask, what does it take to be the kind of coach all you guys want?

Mike Davis took Indiana to the national title. Mike Davis. Kevin Ollie just started coaching and already took UConn. Is it some kind of magic? No coaching tactic got UConn to that position...Napier and Boatwright and Daniels did.

Indiana's biggest problem right now is that it hitched its wagon to some of the wrong guys. They got fooled. There's a reason no one wanted Troy Williams. That is what kills you, not who IU misses on in recruiting. It's the ones we've gotten that are screwing us...

Ding ding ding! That is Crean's fault!!!

At least 5 or 6 times last night I saw Emmett And even Perea with perfect offensive  post position with their man sealed and begging for the ball. What happened ?Yogi or JBJ looked them off only to take poor and selfish shots. When a big is working hard, rebounding and blocking shots they should be given a chance to be part of the offense.

Its a a wonder we can even get a big to consider us much less commit the way we use them.

There are tons of guys that cheat on defense trying to pad their steal stats and end up putting themselves in poor position defensively. They end the game with 2 steals, but gave up a ton more points by constantly trying to cheat the play. When your deflections are high it usually means your in good position, being active with your hands and generally distrusting the offense. It is not an end all/be all stat, and no doesn't always result in a turnover, but it's a good indicator.

I played college basketball and deflections were one of the most important stats our staff tracked. Quite often at halftime and post game the first stat our coach would rattle off to us were our deflections.

Of course a coach can overuse or overvalue the stat, but it is a good one.

The team steal stat is what means something as do team turnovers. Both which lead to other opportunities for the opponent and whoever wins those stats most often wins the game. You are comparing individual stats with team stats. Nice deflection though! :D

Crean doesn't knw how to use two bigs in the game at the same time an thing is they really aren't true bigs. Only way crean knws how to play an coach is 4 guards 1 big an run up an down the floor.

Good to see you posting again fivestarhtm!   :D

Agree with ya though, Crean is definitely more comfortable with coaching guards.  Big men aren't his strong suit.
