IU vs Mississippi Valley State Game Thread

Recommended Posts

Nothing but sunshine and optimism right now. I know MVSU is terrible, but many other teams are struggling tonight against no-name schools.

Random thoughts on specific players.

April - won't get many minutes this year, but he is not Tijan or Jurkin either.

Hanner - he is improving every game. His potential is starting to come through. Did a great job not fouling.

Hoetzel - I thought this kid was just going to be a 3 point shooter. I was wrong. Hoetzel has very good ball handling skills. He brought the ball up the floor several times. He also scored in several different ways. Also had 9 rebounds. I can ABSOLUTELY see Hoetzel being the next underrated kid that develops into a significant player at IU.

Nate Ritchie - really like this kid's attitude and hustle. Will develop into a contributer by the time he is done.

Rob Johnson - fantastic

Gonna have to say, I have been very pleasantly surprised with our team so far. Only thing that bugged me tonight was the 19 turnovers, but we pushed the tempo and made it high scoring enough for it not to matter tonight.

We rebounded pretty well this time around, and I think that'll only improve when we get Troy, Stan and Emmitt playing. But yeah, Hanner, RoJo and Max look like they could be glass monsters.

It's also great to see some, no, a lot of the scoring weight taken off Yogi's shoulders.

Not sure what that lineup was to end the game. Watching Max dribble in circles was painful and annoying. Needed to feed to Tim and just kept dribbling.

I was actually impressed with H esp his ball handling. He plays with a lot of confidence and adds size which we need. I see him starting before the year is out; one game but a really nice player.

Yeah, but FT are only worth 1 point!

Only worth ONE FREE point.

They ended up hitting 73% - but still left 10 points on the table. How many games has IU lost over the years by 10 points or less? #justsaying

Oh I definitely was impressed by the skills he was showing. Just not impressed by how much he was showing them. That was brutal to watch as a whole

a bit of a ball hog?

Seemed to turn into the Max Hoetzel show instead of staying in the flow of the offense. I know it's nitpicking for that stage of the game, but why not help the guys on the floor enjoy their first moments under the lights too...

He's trying to get run on this team. Obviously Crean knew he had handles by letting him run point. If they can't stop him, what better way to earn minutes. I'm trying to remember the last 6'8" point guard at IU and Bobby Wilkerson at 6'7" is the last. He creates matchup problems on offense and rebounds well which is what we lack. I don't see how you keep him off the court moving forward. Plus he shoots well and has confidence which some may call cocky. Combine him with Hanner, Troy, RJ, and JB2 and its our best 5. We still will get killed by legit teams but it gives us a best chance. Really a nice recruit from Crean.
