Can Crean stay in Bloomington?

Recommended Posts

Come on Hoosier in AZ-----there are positives too--our team GPA---APR scores---back to back sweet 16's that we had not sniffed in years--a BigTen title outright for the first time in forever---a #1 ranking in the country---the best record against ranked teams around----highly ranked in nearly every offensive category in the country---first round draft picks in the NBA---excellent strength and conditioning program--top 20 recruiting classes year after year---and I could go on and on.

The truth is somewhere in between. If Crean gets all the blame for the negatives---then he has to get some credit too for the positives. For me--he has earned the right to stay as long as we get back to the tourney this year and he lowers the boom on the players for all of their off court crud.

I predict he will do both of these and I will support him. If he does not---as I said earlier---I will vote him off the island too!

If expectations are only making the postseason then we really aren't in a good position

I'm perfectly fine with anyone who likes Crean. Thats an opinion and thats great. Just don't attack me personally for wanting him gone Which is what I dealt with regularly. You can be respectful and still disagree which is how I try to be.

And vice-versa.  Everyone is entitled to their opinion.  We all need to respect each other's opinions and realize that there are facts in support of each position.

I wish we could all (myself included) do a better job of not derailing every thread into a Crean bashing or Crean praising thread and stay on topic.  This is the perfect thread to have this conversation in as it is devoted solely to this issue.

What I don't like is not only PERSONAL ATTACKS on the posters, but on the Coach or especially on the players. There is no need for any of that from people who call themselves IU fans.  It's OK to disagree with and discuss substitutions, roster management, the direction of the program, etc. but to make fun of Coach or our own players and by calling out by name which ones aren't good enough to be at IU or naming who should leave or transfer should be off limits.

My two cents.

Spot on, rebelhoosier848891. We need to be able to discuss these issues in a mature way, and leave that bush league personal attack stuff out of it.

There’s nothing wrong with disagreeing. This is all conjecture and opinion - and as such there is no "wrong" or "right" concerning the discussion itself. Agree to disagree or duke it out, but let’s be adult about it.

That goes both ways

The little guys still have a voice to a certain extent. I'm 3 hours away and usually go to a game or two. We decided not to this year. Yea, its just a few seats in the balcony but if others do the same it starts to add up.

Good for you? I mean you not going doesn't take it out on Crean, it affects the players as well. I think we should support the team no matter what. Even if you don't buy tickets, you still watch and or listen to the games, which gets the team/staff/university viewers, which still gets them money

Good discussions---not seeing much I disagree with.

I will say--- win or lose----I will be there to cheer on the team.  Mistakes included, I still think we have a great group of young men playing BBall at IU who need and deserve our support.  They need to grow up some and run till they puke---and then run some more for their violations----but as stated in the movie Hoosiers----"my team is on the floor"!  I would add that my Team and my Coach are on the floor!  I am still so glad we are not UK and I am quite proud of what Crean has built academically and his work at building us back to respectability.  But in my opinion--he has to get us back to the tourney this year at a minimum---this is Indiana and there is no way we should miss the tourney 2 years in a row with the talent we have.  If we miss---the negatives in my opinion finally outweigh the positives and I will push for change. Get it done Coach----just win!

In terms of judging Crean, I'm actually more concerned with how we do in conference this year. I'd be more impressed with a 3rd place finish and round of 32 loss, than I would be with a 6-7th place finish and a sweet sixteen run.

Showing you can coach would be getting this team to win at MSU, at Minny, at Iowa, etc, not necessarily getting hot in one game in the round of 32.

I think attendance stays up at Indiana even during our down years. Now money does not keep coming in from donors and that is what grabs the attention of ADs.

Yeah, attendance won't be an issue. Season tickets might be a different story. I agree wholeheartedly with your thoughts on donors.

Liking this is simply not enough.  I hate that our B1G championship season, where we won outright, gets downplayed cause of the tournament.

The grind of the B1G will be the best barometer of where we are.

Also just want to add that I am NOT a CTC fan. Never have been since day one. I personally think he is a great person, but being a good person doesn't mean you're a basketball coach. I think that he would make one hell of a associate head coach. Lol, seriously

Agreed.

I would be very surprised if that were the case today. More interest in IU now than then.

May have been some empty seats but this little blurb reiterates how strong attendance has always been.

The Hoosiers are among the most storied programs in the history of college basketball, and considered to be a blue blood of the sport. A 2012 study listed Indiana as the third most valuable collegiate basketball program in the country.[4] Indiana has ranked in the top 15 nationally in men's basketball attendance every season since Assembly Hall opened in 1972, and often in the top five.[5] When asked if Indiana basketball fans were the most passionate in the country, ESPN commentator Dick Vitale said, "I don't think there's any doubt about it. They eat, sleep and drink the game."[6] Basketball sportscaster Gus Johnson called Assembly Hall, "the Carnegie Hall of basketball."[7]

[quote name="mdn82" post="100979" timestamp="1415480559"]I would be very surprised if that were the case I agree but if we lose a bunch it will go back to that way it just how it is

They're being judged by the 2008-09 standard? That's good news for Crean, since I think I can find 7 wins in our schedule.

well at least I said if they lose a bunch it would go back that way. Yes r attendance is awesome because r fans r awsome I was just making a point not comparing situations. If u guys think we can play like crap and pack the house every game u r wrong but if u think we can do average and have good attendance this year I agree because we have exciting players. Sorry for getting u guys riled up
