My guess would be so that IU’s home loss to them  isn’t a quad 3 loss which it isn’t anymore and then it makes IU’s road game at MSU a quad 1 opportunity now

Tied for 9th.   10th for seeding in the B1G tournament which one could argue is a better place then finishing 8th or 9th.  Some might think it’s better to avoid Michigan as long as possible in the tournament.   Personally for me their really isn’t a big deal if IU finishes 8,9 or 10.  Moving down or up a spot isn’t going to make a difference.   Those teams still finished 7 or games behind first.  IU could finish 10th in this year and still get an at-large bid
