But I agree with you they should have stayed in the MWC or looked to the Pac-12. BYU have tried to squeeze themselves into the Big 12 a couple times to no avail, including LGBT groups protesting due to the Mormon religion's stances on gays. Quote

You forgot about San Diego St., Utah St., Fresno St., New Mexico St., etc. The MWC is better and they play football. Quote

I didn’t forget about them, they just don’t consistently contend for anything like Gonzaga does. I think being a football independent is a good thing for BYU. They don’t really need the conference revenues and they can play whoever they want. They’d get crushed in the Big 12 or Pac 12 and the Mountain West isn’t a very good football conference. Quote

I wonder why the 'Zags were flirting with joining the MWC just about a year ago? The MWC is a good football conference...Boise St. and Fresno St. are pretty good programs. Quote

The WCC is better than the MWC because Gonzaga is in it, yes. The MWC doesn’t have any perennially relevant programs that give you the chance to have a huge resumé boosting win every season and it isn’t deep enough to make up for that. Nevada is very good this and last season, but Gonzaga is Nevada (but better) nearly every season. Why wouldn’t you want to be in a conference with a perennial top-5 program with just about everything else being equal? I think the conferences are close, but Gonzaga gives the WCC the edge, in my opinion. Quote

mdn82 Posted February 24, 2019 Posted February 24, 2019 You’re definitely overlooking at how good the MWC was for a few years with SDSU, UNLV, BYU and New Mexico leading the charge. Gonzaga would have just been another good competing piece then. Gonzaga has only been as good as they are now for about 3 years. Before that they weren’t really considered national title contenders every year, just a mid major who was going to make the tourney hell in the first weekend. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile appNot a national title contender? They made the Elite 8 in 1999. Then in 2004-2006 they were either a 2 or 3 seed in the tournament. I would say that’s a title contender. In 2013 they were a 1 seed. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app Rico 1 Quote
mdn82 Posted February 25, 2019 Posted February 25, 2019 What about the other years? And in 2013 everyone was predicting them to be the first 1 seed to lose to a 16(Which they only beat Southern by 6 and then lost to WSU. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile appOk? You said they hadn’t been a championship contender until like 3 years ago. They were before that.Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app thebigweave 1 Quote
