I tend to agree.

But why a grind?

Named coach
Top 10 fan base
Top 10 money
Recruiting hotbed
Everything needed to be a top 10 team.

Oh wait, our coach is restricted with recruiting, and we have to try to be a top team while recruiting like a mid ranked team? That’s why it’s a grind?

Or is Archie not as good as Tony Bennett, Chris Beard, Chris Mack, Jay Wright, Mark Few?

Whats missing?

Memphis is a nationally relevant team out of the abyss in 1 year. We could be if we actually wanted to be.

But do we? Or do we want to grind forever?

I don’t know what’s missing. IU’s path for whatever reason didn’t have a quick turnaround like some wanted or some expected. The only path now for Archie is by grinding and getting old and staying old. I don’t know if a 41 year old coach will be as good as some of the guys you mentioned when he becomes their age. I don’t know if Memphis can stay relevant. I would like to see Penny coach a game in the tournament before I made a guess on that

Archie will either grind IU back to where they are relevant again or he will be gone and the cycle will start over and someone new will try to break the cycle

I'll tell everyone a team that is a treat to watch and that is Butler. Wouldn't be surprised one bit if they make a deep March run. Team plays so well together and Ric Smits son has basically been on the shelf all year. I am very impressed with their coach. Top 20 recruiting class next year too. It is a 6 player class though.

5 player class but still rather large.

I think it's obvious that the higher ups at IU don't care if we win or not, and they seem to take steps to make it harder than it needs to be. So we have to resort to talking about how IU "does things the right way" while missing the tournament more often than not. It's incredibly frustrating watching everyone around us having success and playing the game while we're constantly struggling. There's zero reason IU can't be a top 10 program, but it doesn't seem like the university wants it to be one.

Their coach will likely lead them to 4 straight NCAA tourneys and then take the next big job like many previous Butler coaches.

I have no idea who the Butler AD is but if it’s been the same one for the past 10-20 years I wouldn’t mind IU looking him/her. They seem to know how to find good coaches and deal with a constant influx of new coaches over and over again with little to no drop off.

I agree he will be gone soon. Players play hard for him and he has assembled a complete roster with great guards and shooters (imagine that). I assume though some are holdovers from Holtmann. Their AD definitely deserves credit for bringing in A+ coaches after every turn and keeping the basketball program as a perennial top 25 team. Would make too much sense for us to look at him!

A lot of people questioned the Butler hire as well

I think that is the truth that some don’t understand. It doesn’t matter who you hire when it comes to “big names” as some have called them and alleges to nobody being interested.

“Big name”, “small name” who cares? It comes down to what they do when they get here. I have no doubt we all would have freaked out if we hired a D3 coach or something but if they won everyone would shut up.

A D3 coach, Archie, Brad Stevens... as long as we get back to winning ways and do it before we’re all dead the fans would ecstatic.

There are plenty of non “big names” that have taken over programs recently doing an exceptional job!

Like maybe...a Greg Tonagel? Potentially the best coach in the state of Indiana, quietly winning, and winning, and winning. Recruiting very good players to come to little IWU. Crazy not even Valpo has given him a shot.

Seriously though, I would love him as an assistant at a minimum.

O$U Musa Jallow is trending towards a redshirt. Jallow hasn’t played yet this season after having right ankle surgery.

Harvard's Seth Towns has entered the transfer portal as a graduate transfer, sources told ESPN. Ivy League Player of the Year in 2017-18 after averaging 16.0 points and 5.7 rebounds, missed the last season and a half due to injury.  [former 4-star SF]

If his knee is ok Towns will be a really good get for someone, OSU I assume. 6’7” and can make deep shots.

Asking the ultimate college hoops fan...
B1G/college basketball games or the Gator Bowl on your main/live action screen tonight?

Basketball on the main 2 and probably the football game on #3. You got to remember I didn’t go to IU, I graduated from ISU so I don’t really follow IU football(sorry guys).

Just saw additional info on the Towns situation.

Harvard forward Seth Towns is having season-ending knee surgery. Towns graduates in May and will have two years to play elsewhere. This isn't a normal transfer situation. The Ivy League doesn't have graduate students.

But your heart's in the right place and we love you anyway.

Born into being an Indiana Basketball fan and that will never change. I will say just from being on this board I have definitely watched more Indiana football games then I ever have before

I might check the score once in awhile. But I will watch the Basketball games. Not a big fan of football.
