That tracks with what Dusty May was saying as basically there is a top 5ish (or top 4 by your article) in the B1G money-wise, then there’s everyone else. So in your opinion the amount of money Michigan spent on their roster was about the same as IU? If that is your opinion then in this situation for this last year I disagree with you. I think Michigan spent way more on their roster than IU did this year. Will it be closer next year’s and the years to follow? I think so but this year Michigan opened the bank Jeff Flabjohns and HoosierHoopster 2 Quote

Norlander - Texas Tech ranks 360th out of 365 teams in bench minutes. Quite literally cannot afford to lose its best player and still be a viable candidate to make a run at a national title when there are so many good teams crowding the top of the rankings. Quote

Probably less. Kind of like how Texas and Georgia aren’t putting in any less money into football than IU. I’ve read that Dusty went out on his own to raise money for himself. If that’s the case, I don’t see why IU can’t do that. Much like IU football, Michigan basketball is killing people, so after the fact everyone copes by saying it’s unfair how much money they have. But that’s all after the fact. Before the season started only Duke and Kentucky were identified as programs going way outside the normal top spend. Then everyone else identified as top spenders—IU, BYU, Michigan, TT, etc..—were all pegged at around $10mil. I’m sure some are a little higher and some a little lower. We’ll never know as the coaches don’t even know for sure. But Cadeau, Mara and Johnson weren’t the best players on their own teams. Compare that to Lville who for the second year in a row has “stolen” multiple P5 players who were the best on their own teams when they transferred. I can’t imagine that UM spent a bunch more money than Lville. They’re just doing more with it. RoadRage 1 Quote

What I have found is that May said that in his first year they were bottom five in the B1G in NIL. That may be a stretch but it’s his words. He was confident this year they would be top 5 and most outside people placing them in the top 2 or 3 in the B1G. But he’s been very adamant, in several interviews, that it was him and his staff who have went out and raised the NIL themselves by connecting with boosters and former players. If you have an article or numbers showing that Michigan the institution is the one showering the team with money in a way Indiana can’t, I would be interested in reading that. I'm not sure why that distinction matters. I'm not discounting May's success by pointing out his roster is very expensive. If he raised the money himself, great. Just saying a roster with an NBA guy, three transfers who were contributors on other teams with top 25 resources, plus a 5 star freshman, plus retaining your other guys etc was very expensive. It reminds me of Cignetti. Year 1 he had lower half Big Ten resources, but still made the playoff with JMU and MAC guys. As a result he gets solid NIL for year 2. Wins a title, and now our football NIL is outstanding and we're hosting some of the top guys in the portal. Devries can get there too. Win and the money will follow. I’m glad you guys have come around…lol Dusty doesn’t have a magic money machine à la UK. He’s just did a really good job this offseason. IU can get there. Also, much like Cig spent the last month pushing back on the idea that he had a “very expensive “ roster relative to other contenders, I bet May would push back too. The truth is he showed how he could successfully play 2 bigs last year. So much like Cig and Rourke/Mendoza, it’s no surprise that some of the top portal bigs wanted to play for May. Maybe Devries can leverage Wilkerson’s success into landing the top portal 2-guard. Quote
