Ha, just letting them know.

Eh it's cool. If someone states something it is up for discussion. Simmons is the biggest Celtic homer, so I am sure it wasn't just a knee jerk comment. He has probably heard at one point that was Stevens dream job and just over analyzed the situation. It's his job.

I'm a pretty big fan of Simmons. I usually like what he has to say, or it's entertaining at least because he has no filter. Everyone has heard that IU is Stevens' dream job, but who knows. I figured I'd get some pretty funny (over)reactions from this, and it worked haha. Always rooting for Crean though, because if he is doing well, IU is doing well and that's really all I care about.

I became a fan of Simmons when he went in on the NFL

I did after I read his book. Just realized that the Celtics to him is IU to us. He just gets to spew to the sports world all of his fanhood.

I hope just as much as anyone that we turn this thing around, but with that we need to turn this recruiting slump around as well.
Mediocre will not cut it for me. To even have a discussion of "will we make the tournament this year" makes me sick.
Top 25 every year, all year is what I expect!

It may just be me but I don't really see a recruiting slump I see us getting into the picture with a lot of guys late and missing plus we've gotten a couple big names that didn't pan out and we also just landed in my opinion a pretty good 2014 class. The decommits in the 14 class could be an eyebrow raiser depending on how you look at it.

I think we will turn it around this year and surprise people if this team gels it could b what creans last two years were lacking and could fix a lot of problems

I'm not sure if TheWatShot is absolutely correct about the contracts date of the year ending, but he's close. Its somewhere in the middle of the summer, end of June or July I believe. If the donors are willing to put up the money, I doubt that they are going to wait till the buyout drops. They'll get it done as early as possible in order to give the new coach as much opportunity to prepare for the next season as possible. There are donors out there to whom the couple of extra million dollars means nothing.

As far as the opinion that Glass would not accept money to buyout the contract, I call BS on that. I do not think he is a puppet that's just going to hire and fire every time a donor(s) gets disgusted with a coach, but if that time comes where he sees it as the right option to move a different direction, he will have no problem taking help to facilitate the change.

Overall, I am not certain that a so-so year is enough to get CTC fired, although a really bad year might do it. If IU puts up a respectable year, I suspect that his job is secure for another year.

I'd have to add however, that I highly doubt that CTC is the head basketball coach at IU for too many more years.

Another year like last season and he should be gone on the first thing with wheels.  Make the tournament, and I'd be willing to go one more but I would still have very little faith in Crean to accomplish much.  Elite 8 at minimum is the only way he'll get any faith back from me.

Crean doing just enough to keep his job but not really accomplish anything would be bad for the program, we'd be in the same situation as Illinois with Bruce Weber.  None of us should be okay with that.

I agree and think he has the tools to build to that. I am not expecting an elite eight this year but am expecting to be in the top 25 and playing very well at the end of the year. I expect 1 maybe two wins on the NCAA this year, keep most of the guys and then the following year be a top 10 team.

With the talent on this team all we need is some experience and a big and we are back in the mix in 2015-16.

The 2012 class really hurt the progression of the program. RMK had a similar class with Reid, Miller and Patterson which broke his steak of winning it all every 5-6 years.

If, however, the "expert" predictions come true and we finish 8, 9, 10 or lower then it is time for a change and it will be obvious for most.

Geez, that idiot who wrote this "article" made it seem like Stevens is looking at real estate in Bloomington. It was really a throwaway line from Simmons about Stevens dealing with a rebuilding team. Bill even mentioned UCLA, unaware that Alford has been extended into the next decade.

That was exactly what I thought too when I heard Bill and Jalen talking about this.  I was like Alford is gonna be there a while, fellas.  It wasn't mentioned either about the buyout for Crean.  It was a total throw away line.

I agree with all u said but next year is a total guess cause we have zero idea who we will even have on the team. Troy and yogi leave we could b the same as last year or . This year

There is some talent on this roster, but it's not a roster he can just role the ball out.  It's a roster that he'll have to do a good coaching job with.

I agree. I think a below average coach could take this team to a 7th place or worse record in the BT and an NIT appearance or one that barely makes the NCAA.

Very good year to see what we have as a coach.

I agree with you but am reminded of last year and the year before. He could have shown his chops last year and went 17-15. The year before will go down as his best team in terms of total talent and underachieved as the team sputtered at the end of the B1G and NCAA's. Many keep thinking he's gonna turn into this coaching phenom in year 7. We got what we got and 2012-13 was the year I finally realized it. Its not like we all wanted him to fail.

One shot a winning the national championship was all you needed to conclude he can't?
