Jeremiah April In Boot

Recommended Posts

It's been reported April was at the football game wearing a protective boot. Reports also said he started practicing with the team in the last week and felt discomfort in his foot so the boot was put on as a precaution.  Hopefully, that ankle/injury that kept him out of service in Canada will heal and we will get to see him at Hysteria! We sure don't need injuries with our bigs!

I'm not sure he plays that much this year even if he is healthy.  CTC's comment from this summer regarding his conditioning made me think he isn't in the right shape to play.  I think we see HMP, DD, and Holt hold down the fort up front with situational help from Priller while we go guard heavy.

If he is not healthy by Hoosier Hysteria---doubt will start creeping in about a more serious problem. I agree with Parakeet Jones that Crean's comments about Jeremiah lead me to believe he is not ready this year for major minutes.  At this point, I just want him to get healthy enough for just a few minutes a game so he can get game experience.

Hanner wore a boot on his foot as a precaution most of last season but it was never serious enough to hold him out of games. It's too early to worry about this now. Jurkin came to IU injured. He had been injured since high school. Jeremiah got hurt in practice at IU, big difference. From what I know, April doesn't have a history of injury and that was a known fact about Jurkin in high school.

Yeah--hope April's iinjury does not become long term like Jurkin's.  I was so happy when Jurkin committed because he looked like a blocking and rebounding machine in his highlights. Hope he gets some of that back. I always root for former Hoosiers when they go to a different school.

What position isn't "key?"

One in which a team already has depth and multiple talent. It also depends on what your team likes to do and/or the league in which you play. This is of course my opinion and you can disagree at your leisure. When and if you do, please give the answer to whether or not the recruiting of project bigs has paid off for Crean once in seven years to justify his continuing to keep doing it?

I would agree with you years ago. But the game has changed significantly. And on top of that, it isn't a big point of emphasis in Crean's offense. It's not like April was his first choice; the guy got caught because his four year mainstay center decided he wanted to be close to mother. Peter was a fine prospect, but he could not physically overcome the injuries. That happens, and it happens a lot with big players. Bawa, we hardly knew. I can't say that was a mistake. We needed anyone--literally--to come play here.

Shot blocking is what you need out of that position right now. Rebounding, etc. obviously you need that as well but it's really about having someone to change shots. It isn't about having someone to throw it down to inside for them to score. It just doesn't work that way. The game isn't played like that in college. You can have a Kaminsky all you want, but the Harrisons stuck it right up his ass.

I don't know... any time you can get a Zeller or Vonleh that is a big deal but it doesn't come around that often, especially a Zeller.

If given the choice between a Pritchard type, solid but extremely limited...or a Hanner Perea, who if he gets it together is an NBA player... I'm taking Perea every time and twice on Sunday. I know that doesn't play well with the bottom line "this is Indiana" crowd, but this isn't 1983. There aren't that many big players around who would satisfy your standards, I'm guessing. Most big players today don't know how to play, you have to develop them. They all want to be guards. It's something that has changed. It's all about adjusting. This takes a lot of time, as seen with Hanner, etc. JMO.

I will say I am hoping to see IU land DeRon Davis in 2016, no matter what happens with Thon Maker. He could be DJ White-esque. Now THAT is a big kid who knows how to play inside.

Really think that would be a nice update to the roster. DD2.0 lol

Sent from my place of advanced, analytical thinking: the toilet.

I really like what I have seen of DeRon Davis too.  Anyone know how we stand with him????

Hopefully April will continue to develop as well and be solid in a few years---it seems the coaches comments I have read like his shooting form/touch and passing abilities.

I appreciate letting me know how the game has changed but I never saw your answer to my question to you which was which of Creans project bigs has paid dividends? 4 + paragraphs telling me how the game changed, how bigs aren't important after stating that all positions are key earlier; Not one has contributed even Hanner. Hanner has talent just lacks the work ethic as shown by little to no improvement in year two. Expecting better thing from him this year but not impressed with any of Creans project bigs in year 7.

Hanner has the athleticism and a some tools, but that's about it right now.  On the court he's ranged from completely and utterly lost to pretty much lost the last couple years.  Part of that could be the fact that he hadn't been playing ball long, at a position with a bigger learning curve, when he got on campus.
