Yep--being around constantly negative people is just too draining....

I get so tired of the GET OFF OF MY LAWN crowd!

Half the time--it isn't even their lawn--- or their yard!

I can promise you if Crean was successful in what he was hired to do it wouldn't be this way with the negativity. Coaches at IU are compared to others as you well know being a student in the 80's. If you can tell me after year 6 what about Crean gives you all these reasons to be positive in his coaching or plan to be successful? I get the whole let's be positive for ole IU. All of us that posts here wants us to win every game. But, the fact remains Crean has underacheived based on our own standards and even those that gave him a three year pass when he started. Will this finally be the year he is held accountable for actual coaching? Or should we just continue to blindly follow him until Glass cuts him loose?

Well the thing is, not matter what happens, people complain. Even after a win its the same. I get the whole idea of looking for things to improve upon, etc but it gets old after awhile. Also the thing is, no matter how much people complain or whatnot….Crean is still the coach right now and there is nothing that complaining will do about it. Tickets keep getting sold out, he keeps bringing in quality players, so its probably satisfying Glass and the admins right now.

I sure don't see many complaining after a win or well executed game plan. I can only speak for myself of course. I understand how from your perspective how it gets old but I think you would agree there are two sides to every coin. The difference is those believing different aren't the ones complaining of how anyone keeps seeing just positives in year seven. A lot of the glass half full crowd weren't around to see great, executed gameplans regularly. Or watching a well disciplinedd team every outing with few turnovers and even fewer mental mistakes. Winning darn near 80% at home and never losing to inferior teams because you can't execute an inbounds pass. I'm not asking for perfection but I can promise you real Indiana basketball is a long shot from what we have witnessed and my hopes are that at some point people in your camp will see it. Then you will actually have something to compare this to.

No I understand what you mean. I guess I see a lot of negativity because I get on Inside the Hall a lot and it seems like the majority of people over there are ready to lead some sort of coup against Crean, even after wins they knit pick every play and basically talk as if we had lost the game. Ive only been on this site since the summer, but Ive seen how people react to things going on at IU that go on at EVERY school, but complain as it if only happens here haha
But even back in Knight's days and prime, there were definitely times when Knights teams lost to inferior teams or lost games that they easily should've have won. I think time dulls peoples memories a little and people seem to think that Knight won every single game he ever coached. Even some of his best teams lost dumb games to teams they easily should have beat. A lot of his early 90s teams were highly competitive and great teams, but highly underachieved as well. I don't even have to explain Mike Davis' career here haha.  Im in no way saying that Crean shouldn't be held accountable for his teams, but when it comes down to it, I've never been a negative person about anything in life, just me. hahah.

I think your post is fair, and you didn't call me a Kentucky fan as one of our least knowledgeable posters once did. I agree some of Knight's later teams certainly didn't overachieved but we always went dancing. Knight didn't win all of his games; but he won the games that mattered most. 3-0 National championship games. I think you will find here on Btown Banner, there is a mix of both sides to tell and most are respective of others opinions. We all want IU to win the IU way; we just differ on how to get there.

Good Convo goin on fellas.  I see it from both perspectives.  Do I get sick of the constant negativity regarding Coach Crean?  Yep sure do.  Do I think that after 6 Seasons, Coach Crean should have gotten us in the tournament more than 2 times?  Yep, Roger That.  This is why I really feel that this year is so important.  Can you imagine if IU does not make the tournament this year in what will be year 7 of the Crean Era?  You think that seat is hot now, but man it will be on fire if we don't show major improvement from last year and make us Hoosier Fans at least optimistic about the future.

I also don't put too much stock in the atmosphere of certain message boards.  I don't know who is a troll, or simply someone that knows about as much about basketball as my mother in law does, not too much.  So basically, I don't put too much stock in the opinions of some posters that offer no solution, but would rather just complain.  I listen more to fans like myself, the die hard IU fans that can speak knowledge and explain what they feel is wrong with the team.  I'm withholding judgement on this year's team because I have been let down so many times before, but I'm hoping to be pleasantly surprised, and I think that we'll be much better than last year's team.  We only lost Will Sheehey that was a big contributor and most of the time last year he struggled anyways.

If we have to rehash it all again for the millionth time--- I look at it like this---since we rebuilt under Crean he has had two above average years and one below average year last year---but we were young.  I give him the pass last year but we must win this year and I expect us to do so.  If we don't......then I will be joining the "get off of my lawn" crowd!  It's IU---we have big expectations but they have to be reasonable as well.  Our record against top teams tells me we are on the right track.  Crean has this year to prove we are! All programs--- including even UK--- have subpar seasons. We just have to bounce back and we are fine!  If we don't bounce back--- then Crean will not survive.  Many of us in this camp are not happy with everything and we expect to see improvement in coaching too. But---unlike the trolls and naysayers---we are realistic and will always back IU and its players---and will NEVER hope to see IU lose just to get rid of a coach-----and will NEVER trash our players or call for them to transfer (unless it's for criminal/character reasons). For now----my Coach and my team are on the floor---and I will be rooting them on!  Go IU!

I agree. I know Crean is awful at in game adjustments and his substitution decision made ZERO sense last year, except putting JChef in for Vonleh on D, but I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt for last year. If this year is a repeat performance, I'll initiate the KickStarter campaign for his buyout.
