5 Realistic Goals for the 2014-15 Hoosiers

Recommended Posts

The names and faces of our players have changed quite a bit again this season. Let's be realistic here and see what are 5 realistic goals for this year's team. (I don't want to see National Championship as a realistic goal...).

Here are mine:

1. Protect Home Court (<= 1 loss)
2. Top 6 finish in Big Ten
3. Advance to weekend of BTT
4. Earn at large NCAA berth
5. Advance to the Sweet 16

If we can achieve 4/5 of these goals I'll consider the year a success. I still think we are in a growing transition phase so I expect some bumps on the road. I so think JBJ will be Big Ten Frosh of the Year and Yogi + JBJ have shots at first/second team all big Ten. I hope with the addition of these shooters Yogi can really focus on the drive and kick to our wide open shooters. It'll be nice to see those 3 point t-shirts tossed all over again this year.

1. Take better care of the ball2.move better off the ball3.finish in the top five of big ten 4.big ten tourney semifinals5. Make the NCAA tournamentSent from my XT1050 using BtownBanners mobile app

I'll take this list. I don't need semifinals of BTT, just a win would be nice.

Also,

6. Better substitution patterns......is a must
7. 2015 recruiting success. Get a couple guys we are actually aiming for. Choice A or B not X, Y, and Z.

Seeing as we still have a young team and we have yet to see them play, I am trying to keep my expectations in check.

1) No more than 12 turnovers per game on average
2) 20+ wins, plus enough good ones to put us in the tournament
3) Top 6 in the B1G, with at least one win in the B1G Tournament
4) Advance at least to the second round of the tournament, seeing as I expect us to be ranked in the 7-10 seed range
5) We have a couple major upsets during the season to help build our young guys' confidence

1) Look like a team having FUN while playing ball

2) Find an identity, and be really good at that (really good shooting team, really good defensive team, etc.)

3) Play UP to the competition instead of playing down

4) Make a run in the B1G Tournament

5) Make the NCAA tourney, with a respectable seed

1.  Faith - (player development, coaching, newbies)

2.  Hope - (positive, can-do attitudes, making the right decisions, winning)

3.  Love - (a restored love for Hoosier Nation that is kind of dented right now)

4.  Respect - (leadership, coaching, one another)

5.  Desire - (playing at Indiana, for Indiana, and winning for Indiana)

You can talk about turnovers, scoring, tournaments, coaching, and winning all you want.  If you don't have these 5 things, none of this matters.
