Facts. Let's see how Illinois State compared last year to Indiana, and how did they fare? BPI is really where it's at, but SOS is important too. B1g difference in the strength of teams IU played, but 118 isn't ungodly low-life.

RPI: Indiana - 99th, Illinois State - 133rd
SOS: Indiana - 65th, Illinois State - 118th
BPI: Indiana - 68th, Illinois State - 146th

RPI = Ratings Percentage Index
SOS = Strength of Schedule
BPI = Basketball Power Index

For laughs, Incarnate Word was dead last in SOS at 351st of 351 teams. That was in the Southland conference, where they went 21-6 for the year. (P.S. leave Priller out of it, please lol). Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners

So as we all thought, Illinois State played a pretty weak schedule and did pretty poor against a weak schedule. I hope people are right and he offers a lot more of the intageables.

[quote name="Andrew-_-44" post="73533" timestamp="1404879454"]You ever think that possibly recruits see the type of negativity and pessimism that is present in team message boards? It's stuff like this, which is failure to support your team and its players, even in bad times, that would drive a kid away.

If a kid won't come to IU because of what people say on a message board then good riddance.

Defensive much? I'm glad to see u used specific numbers ( the 800 posts) to finally support your argument for once. Isn't it nice not to talk in generalities? I'll bow down to your 800 post wisdom sir because obviously it gives you the right to allow spurt out anything like some Fox News reporter as long as it justifies blind loyalism. "Too funny" bro.

You said I was making everything look great because I blindly follow Crean. So you were the one forcing me to defend my words in this thread, which I shouldn't have to do since it is my opinion after all. And I referred to my amount of posts to convey a point that no one can post almost 800 times and not be critical of Crean. Who would brag about how many posts they have on a message board. You called me out, I responded to your absurd comment by giving you my post history, which you know nothing about. You know what the root of this is? You can't allow someone to praise a kid who signed with IU because your bitterness over last season makes everything come full circle back to Crean. Not everything is about Crean dude. I'm mad about last season too. But it's July and we signed a player. Let's talk about what he can bring or why this is a bad signing rather than blindly call me out on the most blanketed and clownass statement I have ever seen.

But if you have a kid debating between us and Duke or Kansas, and all he sees is how supportive those schools are of the players and sees how pessimistic some of our posters are towards the Crean program, those schools get more brownie points. you'd be crazy to pretend that sort of thing doesn't play a role in the recruitment.

Support doesn't mean blind loyalty, or not being allowed to be critical.  We all want these kids to surprise us, some just choose to recognize when it's not likely.

You'd be crazy to think that the same thing doesn't go on other schools boards. Like I said if a kid won't come here because of what a few people say on a message board then good riddance. Maybe staying home so mommy and daddy can baby him would be a better option.

Many on the Duke boards were hard on the Coach and team after their loss in the 1st game of the tournament and felt they underachieved and they made that abundantly clear.

LMAO. What did they bellyache for a day or two? The guy is a legend and they treat him as a god at Duke. That's a joke

Everyone's being critical of Crean after how our last season went, but I don't know if many have "blind loyalty" towards him and agree with every decision no matter what, unless they know him personally or something.

Criticism is a good thing, some people are just more optimistic in their views or are just more confident in his abilities.  I agree that for the pay he's getting, we should have done a lot better last year, but it's unrealistic to think that wins and tournament births are just a given, there are 351 D1 teams that are striving for those 64 spots.  We should be in the top 64, no doubt, and with the pay Crean's receiving there has got to be some success this next year.

I feel that a lot of the issues we had last year were attributed to team chemistry (youth, off-court issues, some players obviously didn't want to be at IU anymore, etc.), so big props to Crean and the rest of the staff for bringing in Chuck Martin.  I believe he would be able to help our team mesh and bring in new recruits where chemistry will flow much better in the coming years, just based off the interviews he's had and past work experiences, I feel that Chuck makes team chemistry a high priority.

How can we be surprised if it's likely that they will play that well?

What Jaybob said. Reinforcing the same points over and over doesn't change anyone's mind. It just makes you look like an ass because you can't get  over it.

What Jaybob and Reb said. I'd like to reinforce that , that, ah...

DOH!!

It is a joke. Coach K is a legend. Another poster implied fans of other schools don't question things around their program. They do.

Well, this thread worked out well. This goes for EVERYONE.

Quit posting your same feelings in EVERY post you make. We get how you feel, but it doesn't have to consume every post. Make your point, and move on. Your opinion is no better that anyone's, so quit thinking it is. Every poster has an opinion, and just because you don't agree with it doesn't give you the right to prove them wrong. It's annoying and says more about you than the original poster.

JS and CampCrean, you two have strong poster personalities. The bickering back and forth will stop NOW! I've never had an issue with you, but when your bickering and constant re-enforcing posts goes on, it takes away from the board and threads. We get that you feel a certain way, but quit letting it be in every post. Doesn't happen all the time, but we get how you feel on subjects. Move on and let's discuss other stuff.

I could care less if you love or hate coach, but if that's the basis of your posts and in continuous, posters get tired of it. Not every post has to be about how much last season sucked, or how Coach Crean is smarter than you. Get over whatever it is you have against other posters. We should be having fun and enjoying civil debates. The bickering back and forth between anyone hurts the thread, and takes away from what others want to discuss.

Nick may or may not be an asset, but say your peace and move on. Nothing else.

- Sincerely, Mod Squad!

I feel like if I give my opinion on Nick and say nothing about Crean, but get posts jabbing me as someone trying to pull the wool over everyone's eyes I have the right to respond. I made a post relevant to the topic and subsequently had to respond to comments that had nothing to do with what I said. I make dumb posts and overreact a lot (the sarcastic all caps post above for example), but I don't feel as if I'm in the wrong here. I'm happy to disagree with someone, but if you're going to call me out I'm not going to hide under the porch. Just my two cents.
