A program of excuses

Recommended Posts

After hearing Glass recent interview regarding the state of our program, I will follow his lead and agree with him. Excuses are so much easier than doing.
1. No one can replace Bobby Knight.
2. Help is on the way.
3. I didn't make those phone calls.
4. It's Indiana.
Now, we just incorporate any excuse as to why our beloved program can't get back to winning consistently. How many years will it take to quit making excuses and hire the right person who will say "the buck stops here" or "it's my fault"?

Can't wait for this thread. Crean and Glass are a season away from an outright BIG title. If you think they're going to give a grand gesture of apology, you're barking up the wrong tree. I gave up on Crean ever taking responsibility a long time ago. All we can hope for is a few solid recruits and a season we can build on. It's out of our hands.

Meh.  Winning consistently?  It has been longer than 15 years if we are going by the standard of what you guys truly want.  If an outright isn't good enough, then neither is consistent early bow out of NCAA.  Don't pick and choose history to prove a point.  Bob Knight from 93 on wasn't good enough for your guys "standards" either.

Edit:  I want to win too at a higher level than we are, but to act like we can snap a finger and make it happen is ludicrous.  Since they went to 64 teams IU has been far less relevant than before.  It is harder to win now than when we were actually winning.  I think we still can.  I think at some point we still will.  Will it be with Crean?  I don't know.  I do know it is far more difficult than you guys make it out to be and a damn recruiting coordinator is causing this?  Give me a break.  That isn't what this is about and you guys know it.  Losing Kenny isn't the end of the world.  It sucks, but 2 years ago you guys bitched about the hire.  Now you ***** about losing him.  Some of you guys might be better sitting back and taking things in before impulsive posting.

Yeah becasue a coach coming in and declaring "the buck stops here!" would correlate to winning... What does that even mean? "The buck stops here." And "it's my fault," for what? What is his fault?

The reality is, the program had some really bad years after some horrible coaching decisions followed by two of the best years since 1987. Last season was disappointing, but what did you expect? And this season coming up is looking promising. It is what it is. Crean's doing a good job of bringing in talented recruiting classes. I don't think there's really anything to apologize for.

He makes questionable coaching decisions.  I get that.  So does Coach K if you watch him for 30+ games.  People act like Crean is the only one.  I am not a fan of his offense leaving the decisions in the players hands.  I would prefer an offense that makes decisions for them.  I would prefer a smaller rotation.  Beyond that, recruiting is not my issue of the man if we are being real.  If you are a guard, you will flourish here.  As a big?  You will get inconsistent touches in the paint.

Coach K had arguably one of his worst coaching jobs of his career this year IMO.

It does correlate to winning and you see it with the best coaches. How many times when Mich St plays poorly does Izzo take the blame? Does he make excuses? His idea of throwing kids under the bus was shown after their poor performance getting beat in the tournament this year and you know what he said? Nothing to take away from UConn but our team did not play their best. That's what you get from a championship coach. Now if you think this upcoming year looks promising then I want some of what you're drinking. We have no post options at all and three wing freshmen are going to make a difference when we made the freshmen excuse all last year.

1. No one can replace Bobby Knight.  The fanbase...An excuse

2. Help is on the way.  Mike Davis...An excuse

3. I didn't make those phone calls.  Kelvin Sampson...An excuse

4. It's Indiana.  Tom Crean...NOT an excuse

I'm sure it's riveting.

I bet it's not as good as his Hoosier calibrated eyes.

Haha some duke fans were calling for him to retire

They are nuts.  You know how people here put Knight on a pedestal?  He couldn't recruit like Coach K could at the end of his career.  That to me is the most impressive aspect about Coach K.  He still has the fire to go out and get a Parker, Okafor, and Jones.  That to me is incredible.
